Nutrisystem or not??? What would you do?

I have another 9 months to go on my insurance required health education program. The reason I'm so afraid to lose much is because the clinic says I can not gain any. I'm afraid to get back on Nutrisystem, lose a bunch, get off NS, then gain some back and the clinic resetting me because of it.   I want so much to lose weight. I know (from past experience) that if I'm on NS 100% I lose, but the moment I get off NS, I gain it all back plus some. I've been on and off NS since 2004. I have so many discounts on my NS account that I get the most expensive program and I only have to pay $203 a month. I just don't know what to do.   What would you do?

Does the surgeon not put you on a weight loss program? Mine did for 6 months qualifying time for insurance?

No. Just have to lose 5-10 lbs before surgery. I go see the NUT for the first time in Sept., so maybe they will then. I don't know. Things are moving really slow right now but will speed up in Sept.

I wouldn't waste the money personally- I would find your target protein goal is based on your weight and try to stay under 50 carbs a day with your calorie allotment that is determined. NS meas are also super high in sodium and carbs- I would personally not go that route.

Is there a site that can help figure out how much protein for my weight I should be eating?

I would eat a good low carb, dense protein forward diet like you will need to eat for life after surgery. Focus on low carb veggies like green beans, cauliflower, broccoli and dark greens. Cut out pasta, rice, potatoes, breads and sweets. This is what you'll need to eat for life after surgery in order to be healthy, lose your weight and then maintain that loss. NutriSystem really won't be needed after surgery so why do it now? Focus instead on the new habits that go with your new healthier life.

I actually thought of going on NS to get myself back on track.... bit didn't because it's so high in crabs.  Instead, I went to the Five Day Meat Test.  It got me completely off the crabs (bagels/breads/pasta).  Now I eat dense protein first, then low carb veggies.  I'm back to losing weight again, and feel great.

Take a look at the eating guidelines for after surgery. Not the liquid, puree, or soft food stages, but the guidelines for your new, long term eating -- dense protein first, maybe a few bites of veggies after. No sweets, no simple carbs -- sugar, potatoes, breads, pasta, etc.

Start practicing eating this way now. The more you can get used to long term eating and habits, the better off you'll be. And Nutrisystem will not be part of that long term plan.

Even though you only have to lose 15 pounds  - I would suggest getting as healthy as possible before surgery - taking all things into account, - mobility, weight. The healthier you go into surgery, the healthier you come out.

Can you stay on NS for the entire 9 months before surgery???  If not, maybe think about concentrating on the mobility/exercise part and then kick in the NS further toward the end.  I have a feeling that there are more details about your situation that are not yet posted (current BI/weight/how much you want to lose/other health challenges) that would help people give you better guidance. You can post many of that info in your heading.

Good luck - here the insurance just adds a 'gate' aspect that need to get through whether it is really helpful or not.  (Sorry about that but it's important to get your strategy in place, as you are doing, to make sure you tik off the insurance requirments.)
