People Not Feeling Well after WLS

I am scheduled for RnY on September 9.  I have to admit I'm somewhat scared of my upcoming surgery.  It seems lately all I'm reading here are about patients that are having issues.  They feel weak, pouch problems etc.  Are there any people that had this surgery that feel just fine or have just minor issues.  What I'm seeing here is like wow not much fun.  I get it - being obese has its challenges, but having this surgery should be beneficial and not one should not be worst.

the vast majority of people have no complications or only minor ones, like strictures.  I think you hear more about major ones because people with those are more likely to complain or ask questions about their complications.  Major problems also get more press.  From what I can tell, most people get through the surgery and recovery without incident.

re:  weakness - that is common the first few weeks, but I would consider that minor.  Your body has gone through trauma and you're not taking in very many calories at that point, so you're likely to feel weak.  But again, that's not a major complication.

It sounds scary because of the few stories you hear from some people . Honestly, your right about being obese... It's awful. I was relieved to do a lot of educating myself through this board and several other sources of information and find that about 98 % of rny patients feel great with no complications ....Commitment to take your vitamins, follow your diet plan and no NSAIDs ever can only ensure your success! I have felt wonderful since day 4 post op .

The reason you see only posts from people having problems is because this is the best place to come for help. People who have no issues rarely post to tell how great they are doing. Most people will feel weak and tired right after surgery just like you would with any surgery. I've had 2 knee replacement surgeries,3 foot and ankle surgeries and my RNY and felt weak for a bit after each one. It's a side effect of general anesthesia. Personally I had my RNY 4 years ago at a high weight of 272 and at age 53. I had high cholesterol and triglycerides, diabetes and uncontrolled high blood pressure on three pills. I wore a tight size 28 and had knee and back pain every single day. I had pretty much isolated myself because I was ashamed of how I looked and I couldn't keep up with my family when we went to flea markets and such. I was out of breath going down my basement steps. I lost 100 percent of my excess weight in 9 months and have weighed 118 to 123 for 3 years. I now wear a size 0 or 1 (who even knew that was a real size) and walk 5 plus miles a day for fun. The diabetes, high cholesterol and triglycerides and blood pressure are now normal. I'm off all meds for these things except one low dose Losartan for my blood pressure. I now go camping about every other week with hubby and walk about 8 miles a day with my dog Lily while we're at the park. Hubby can't keep up with me now! I no longer worry if a chair will hold my weight or if I fit in a booth comfortably.  I am thankful every day for my surgery and for the active healthy life I have now. It's not always easy. I had to learn new ways to deal with stress and emotions rather than eating, and I weigh myself daily and track every bite that goes in my mouth. The before picture that follows lives on my frig to remind me of where I came from and to make hard choices easier each and every day. I will make the choices that give me the healthy that I now love. Pics to follow.

I had been overweight or obese my whole life even as a child and in that picture probably weighed my highest weight of 273.

It is scary because it's a big change but I have had no complications whatsoever. I am so thankful I had my surgery and could never have imagined feeling this good and being this energetic. Hopefully you will too!
