Nausea after eating

I'm 11 weeks out and have had no major problems since surgery. I'm trying to navigate what I can and can't eat like every newbie. But the past couple days, I feel sooo sick after eating. The nausea is horrid and so far I haven't thrown up just feel miserable. In about an hour after eating it passes. I thought I might just have a stomach bug but I feel pretty good in between bouts of nausea. FYI, here's what I ate today: one scrambled egg, 4 oz ground turkey, 4 ounces ground turkey again. Should I call the doctor?

Are you keeping down liquids? Make sure your food is moist, add gravy to the turkey see if that helps. 4 0z of meat seems like a lot to me, I can barely do 2 oz but then again I am only 8 weeks out.

I've had 2 strictures already. In both instances I was vomiting but had horrible nausea as well. When the strictures first started it was horrible pain and nausea after eating that eventually passed, but quickly got to the point where I was vomiting even liquids.

Try eating smaller amounts, make sure your food is moist. If in doubt it can't hurt to call the dr.

Maybe I'm eating too much. I'll try cutting back.

Are you using any sort of juice or sauce with the Meat? How moist are the Eggs? I tend to get nauseated if food is too dry. And since turkey is so lean and depending on how long the eggs are cooked they can be dry, that could be the issue for you too. Just a thought.

I had sugar free barbecue sauce on the turkey. It went down well, just sat like a brick.

I usually don't eat 4 oz of meat in one sitting, usually 3 and sometimes 3.5. could be too dry as others suggested.

Are you nausea's or a burning feeling?

Sorry you are not feeling so hot!  That really sucks, nausea is horrible. I think you should absolutely call your Doctor/Centre.

It could be a number of things, but at 11 weeks out if I had to guess (and its just a guess) you are dehydrated.  Its hard for me now even at 2 yrs + to keep myself properly hydrated and I have to work at it, so it would not surprise me if you are dehydrated.  But if you are one of those people that drinking is not a problem then it could be that those foods you are eating are not agreeing with you. Could be a stricture or an ulcer.  Oh and at 2 yrs 9mos post op eggs are STILL hit and miss for me. Just last week hubby and I had scrambled eggs and it sat like a rock in my pouch, I felt ill and had to take a nap. Oh and maybe split up your 4oz to two separate 2oz portions see if that helps.  Not sure if you are using condiments like ketchup or bbq sauce but be mindful of hidden sugars, they will make you feel ill for sure. And for me at around year 2 I suddenly became Lactose Intolerant. UGH!  After getting sick off my daily Starbucks Vanilla latte I figured it out.

Post op life after RNY some days is still a mystery to me!!  There are days when I feel so "normal" and I even forget I had surgery and then bang I get one of those days were food does not still well or have not got enough liquids in and I feel crappy.  You are still really new and it is lots of trail and error at this point to figure out what works and what does not.

Call your Doctor.  Fingers crossed you figure this out soon and feel better!

Thanks, Daisy. I think I'm getting my fluids in okay. I'll measure more accurately today and see how I do.

I know it's a learning process, but right now it feels like I'm going to feel crappy forever.

As you know, I'm just a bit ahead of you (12 weeks on Monday)... My persnickety pouch can only handle 1-1.5 ounces of dense meat. I get a slightly nauseous feeling, full up to my throat, and sometimes it stays that way and I add in the foamies and slimes... I've learned I just cant' eat those 4 ounces my doc says I can have.

Now give me Hormel Chili, and I can eat 4 ounces of that with no problem!

But if it's ground meat, whole meats, shrimp, or even fish, I'm very restricted with my amounts of food.

Do you think that maybe if you take it back to only 2 ounces you'll feel better?

Ah, these pouches are hard to navigate!

But I do hope you figure it out and start to feel better soon!!
