How long were you in surgery?

Hi, I had my pre-Ops today in Boston.  I was told my surgery would be about 4.5 hrs.  I also have a hiatal  hernia  that is being repaired, but 4.5 hrs.  Sheesh!  There is a big chance my surgery will be open because I have divaticulitus and this will be my 4th open surgery.  Still seems long to me?  I tried to talk my way into a tummy tuck while they are in there, but was greated with blank stares.  They don't get my sense of humor.  But hey, 4 surgeries and still have the flab.....Come on

I'm not sure because I was asleep during my surgery.

ha!

I think my husband said it was about 3 hours or so. They also repaired a hiatal hernia for me too, took a liver biopsy and fixed a partial bowel blockage that was unknown prior to going in.

Wow, you are lucky they caught the bowel blockage then.  It saves you from future issues/surgeries.

My surgeon said will be 4 hours and I do not have anything else known to fix.  LOL ... I asked if they could remove some of the fat while in there.  My surgeon just looked at me.  I guess that was a no.

Right, I was pushing for that too and got a blank stare, I guess also a no. Lol. Can't blame us for trying.  So your surgery is closer to mine time wise.

Mine was about that long with an umbilical hernia repair. Actually that took longer than the other surgery.

Something to keep in mind-you immediate post op recovery may be a little longer than others since you have to recover from a longer time with anesthesia.
