age limit for RNY?

Seeing the success I have had so far with my surgery my mother has inquired about surgery for herself.  She is 67 years old and from what I can find online that may be too old for most surgeons.  Anyone have any experience with this?

She has a TON of health problems and I don't even think a surgeon would even want to risk opening her up.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

We have a lot of members here in their sixties getting surgery. It's very common. I've also seen a few young people denied for medical reasons.

She should at least pursue it and see how the doctors evaluate her. Unfortunately, if she doesn't have surgery to lose weight, a lot of her other issues won't get better. While dangerous, weight loss surgery may be the only thing that can save her life. Good luck.

Thank you.  She is going to check it out.  I just don't want to get her hopes up for nothing ;(

I agree with Grimm, and I'm one of those people over 60. I was 60 when I was sleeved,  and 67 when I converted too RNY. I'll be 68 in a few weeks and still going strong.

Thank you!  I was hoping to find someone in that age range that had the surgery done.

My surgeon has an age limit, but he will go beyond it on a case by case basis. There was a lady in my 2 week post op group that looked in her 70's an clearly had COPD. I remember being surprised that he had done it on her, but it will probably make a huge difference in her quality of life.

Some surgeons have an age limit.  Mine does not.  I was 65 1/2 when I had my RNY last December (12/4/2015).

You look 15 years younger than that in your profile pic! That's winning!

Thank you.  However, that photo was taken when I was SMO, before my RNY in 12/2015.  Back then I did look alot younger because my skin was full of fat.  There weren't any wrinkles.

Fast forward almost 10 months and 121 lbs less.  My skin is wrinkled, crepey, and hanging.  I now look more like an 80 year old.

I have heard when you lose weight fast your face gets  that way then it fills back out a little after a couple years.  Not sure if that's true.
