I'm about 2 1/2 weeks post op and things are going pretty well. it seems one of the most difficult things for me is not drinking with my meals. anyone else have this struggle and how you deal with it, short of just not having my water bottle within arms reach!

I agree. This has been hard for me too. I'm trying to get enough fluid in before I eat so I'm not so thirsty with a meal but I find myself watching the clock for when I can have something to drink after a meal.

It was one of the absolute hardest things for me. Like you said, keep no drinks near you while you eat. It just takes a while to break old habits. But it gets easier, believe me.

Not drinking with meals, and for at least a half hour after, is a critical component to long term success. So stick with it.

Do you know exactly why drinking with meals or within 30 minutes after is a problem? I am good about it but I have never really understood the reason behind it.

Such a great video. He says lap band but it's the same for our pouch.

Thanks, that's interesting.  I wonder if that applies for VSG also? (I realize this is the RNY board, maybe I should ask over there too.)

VSGers have a pyloric valve at the base of the funnel. Liquids open the valve, dense protein closes it. The plan is the same for both surgeries, with slightly different explanations behind it.

Great video!  Thanks.  I know not to drink after but sometimes I do anyway.  Good demonstration to remind me why it is a bad habit to have.
