less than 24 hours before my surgery. I'm definitely feeling the nerves.  Any last minute tips or for immediately following surgery?

Walk and move as soon as you can. I moved position in bed often and I think that really helped prevent gas because I had a terrible time with that after my c section. Stay hydrated. Follow their instructions. Don't rush the phases. Enjoy the ride. It is life changing.

Walk, sip, rest, repeat. You will be surprised how busy you will be with those 3 things!!  Pain medication is your friend early out.

I hope you have an uneventful surgery and a quick recovery.

I just want to say good luck. I am almost 2 weeks out and feeling awesome!! One thing that really helped with my nerves is I remembered that this is my choice. I am doing this to better my health. You are going to do great! Please post an update when you can. I look forward to following your success!

What everyone else said about the sipping and the walking.  Also I would say take the pain meds.  Don't wait till pain gets bad.  It is far easier to keep pain manageable than to hit it back down once it gets bad.

Take measurements before you go.  I am two weeks tomorrow from surgery.  The weight loss is exciting but WOW the inches are far more impressive.

So far 80 pounds lost!

Don't forget to breathe......in through the nose...out through the mouth.  Walk as much as possible as soon as possible.  Rest when you need it....keep sipping and take the time to be really good to yourself.  This is a BIG deal, and a big change.  Baby steps will lead you where you need to be.

Good luck, and happy healing!!!!

I'm 6 weeks out.  The surgery was the easy part.  I felt pretty good a day later.  I felt better each day from there.  It's important to take it slow and have some help.  Follow the gradual schedule that the give you for going from liquids to mush to ground foods to well cut up foods.  Follow all of the rules of what you can't eat, when to eat and how much.

Best advice:

Follow the rules

accept the even though you are giving up a lot, you are gaining so much more

talk to people here...the long timers have soooo much to offer.

Good luck!

Jeff

Bring a robe that is lightweight. I just left it on after surgery and it was great - especially for getting up for walking, bathroom breaks and scans.  Good luck!
