According to the weight loss calendar on the OH weight loss calculator, I'm like 30 pounds above where I should (or could?) be in my weight loss. I feel so good about my loss until I come across things like this and just feel like I'm smacked in the face again with the frightful reality that I might really not lose all I want to, maybe not even close. :( I am at 337 as of today, but they are suggesting I should be 316! Any vets with advice, especially heavy weights? Feeling pretty bummed.

Btw, my 2 month surgiversary was Christmas Day. So they were suggesting I should have lost like 80 pounds by now? I guess I'm doing something wrong.

That's GOT to be wrong. That cannot be a healthy goal.

Wanted to add that at my local support group meeting, a woman had lost 90 pounds in just over four months, and that was considered impressive. I went to the calculator and put in my info, and it said 61 pounds by 2 months.

I've never seen anyone lose 80 pounds in 2 months. I've never used that calculator, so I can't say anything about it.

I lost almost as much as you weigh right now. The most I lost in any one month was 24 pounds.

There is only one thing you can control -- how much and what you eat. If you eat dense protein, and keep your carbs and calories low, you will maximize your loss. How it comes off, you have no control over.

I am at goal, but I just put my numbers in there and it said I should lose the same amount month 1 and 2 but that was not the case. Except for the first 2 months, it was pretty accurate in my loss and I did reach my goal weight in the same number of months it predicted.

It is just a tool. Keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and you will be fine.

Not a vet, but almost 2 years out. The calculation was somewhat accurate for me, but there were a few months that were really off. Try not to worry and just stay on track!

people lose at all different rates because of a lot of different factors.  I lost 16 lbs the first month, and for the first six months or so, i was consistently behind the curve.  Even the medical resident who did my three (or six?) month follow-up told me I was a slow loser (not what I wanted to hear).  But I kept sticking to my plan and lost weight consistently, if not quickly.  I've lost 224 lbs in total and am at a normal BMI.  So anyway, that calculator would be way off for me as well.  And I really don't think how quickly you drop weight the first couple of months has much bearing on how successful you will be long-term.  Hard work and commitment to your plan do make a difference - a big one.  So don't worry - just stick to the plan.

That calculator said I should have lost 42 pounds the first month. I lost 11.... but by the 18 month mark it was pretty accurate as to where I was... I just looked at it and put in my day of surgery weight and wanting to lose 100% of excess weight... You are not going to lose the same amount every month... I just tried to make having double digit loses every month for as long as I could.....set mini-goals and make it your job...you can do this. Don't focus on the calculator.

I am only 4+ months out.  I, too, have been occasionally discouraged by tools like the calculator or reading what others have lost.  (I think you will see posts like yours frequently across the boards).

I have lost 51 lbs since my surgery.  I've been pretty steady every month averaging about 10 lbs a month after my first month (contribute the extra loss to the liquid, soft food diet right after surgery).

When I don't compare myself to others or a standard tool, I try to step back and realize that I lost 50 lbs in 4 months (90 total in 2016).  That is incredible!!  None of my friends or family have commented that I am not losing enough, fast enough.  They are all amazed at the loss.

Try to calm the fears, congratulate yourself on the success that you had, work to do what you are supposed to be doing and accept that you are an individual.

Stay healthy!
