Well its hard to believe that exactly 1 week ago today - and at this exact time - I was literally walking into the OR.

I wasn't nervous at all - which is kind of strange - but I was relaxed and ready to change my life and start living!

It has been a great experience - and I feel wonderful - considering surgery was only a week ago.

  • I'm eating without difficulty
  • I'm drinking without difficulty (usually getting 4 to 6 glasses a day so far)
  • I do forget to eat - as I have not been hungry once since the surgery
  • I have lost 24.6 lbs since starting SlimTime Shakes on Jan 9th
  • I have lost 10.2 lbs since my surgery date
  • I can see a difference already in my face when I look in the mirror (I was a bit worried, when I was in the hospital - my face looked saggy - but it has caught up to me - and has tightened up)
  • I sleep really really good now at night - don't even wake up to pee
  • Have lots of energy during the day
  • Very little pain - and have not taken any pain killers since Thursday - I really didn't feel good when taking them - I do take Tylenol usually once or twice a day
  • I'm walking a little bit every day
  • When out shopping for a bit yesterday - felt good to get out
  • I do feel kind of "drunk" or "groggy" when I first get up - and from what I can see - it's likely still all the anesthesia and pain killers making their way out of my body
  • The gas - is nothing like it was the first 2 days - that was awful - today it is manageable - walking is the key - and just moving in general
  • I've already noticed a difference in the way my clothes fit - YAY!

I think that about sums it up!

Thank you all for the wonderful messages - they have really meant a lot to me - and have helped me through the process

Congratulations. I've seen many, many people convert from the band, and they are all ecstatic about it.

A little warning though. Those with band revisions were used to having a real hard time eating, and even drinking, without throwing up. And after revision, they can actually eat more. It's a relief, for sure. But keep an eye on it, so that you don't start eating too much.

I had revision from band to Gastric Bypass on 11/28/16, so I am a little bit ahead of you.  I can say that so far this is one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself.  The band was a disaster for me for many reasons.  Gastric bypass feels like a healthier way of living and YES I finally SLEEP at night!  (I had developed severe GERD while on the band and it had gotten to the point where I was getting less than 2 hours of sleep a night.)  Like you, I stopped pain meds a few days after surgery.  I developed an aversion to some of the protein drinks that I had previously loved, but have found a couple that I really like, so am sticking to those.  I find that I really have to plan my day of eating or I start to feel overwhelmed.  I still don't feel comfortable eating out.  I prefer the safety of my kitchen and my scales and measuring cups, as I have figured out exactly how much I can eat if I measure and weigh it.  And I agree with Grim Traveler - I don't throw up anymore.  That is definitely a plus, but for sure wanting to keep an eye on things.  I am so excited for you and hope that you enjoy this new post surgery time as much as I am.

Congrats.

How long did you deal with the Lap Band issues?

As a fellow revision, welcome to a new chapter of your life.

I really only started to have issues this past summer - after I was already going through the process for revision.

I chose a private company for my band here in Toronto - and I was never happy with their support.

I had a few fills - and defills - but all of a sudden after almost a year at a comfortable fill - my band completely closed up - when I questioned this - I was told this was normal after 3.5 years - I thought that was weird.

Every time I needed anything from them - I felt I needed to jump through hoops.

I was lucky my surgeon was able to remove my port - apparently some people are not able to have the ports removed - it must depend on scar tissue around it - and if they can easily find it - he had no problem feeling mine prior to surgery - so said it wouldn't be a problem.

I am so glad to move on :)

Happy one week surgiversary to us! I had my RNY approx one exact week ago, too :D

I agree with the vast majority of what you are noticing! I also had a bit of a weird rash post op that's finally calming down. I'm working on increasing the amount of steps I get each day by at least 500-1000. My steps goal today is 6000.

Agree, surprised by how little pain!! So thankful for that! It made things easier to deal with on the itching front with the rash, for sure!

I'm too, noticing the way clothes fit... the 9 pounds I'm down in the last week are the 9-10 I could lose with some concerted effort in about a two months or so prior to surgery. I always like the "I'm not busting out of my pants feeling" LOL I plan to try to get out today too, but am running a sale for my side business online today so that might limit me a bit. I can at least get a walk outside today, which will be nice!

I'm so thankful I found OH here, it's been such an amazing resource!
