The ups and downs of us RNY'ers!

I have listened to people having complications with various food and many issues of varying kinds.

I have felt blessed that I really have had very little to complain about.  This week that changed some.  All of a sudden hamburger and chicken and shrimp don't agree with me.  I keep going very close to dumping (haven't dumped yet) with lots of pain and discomfort.  I'm trying salmon tonight and I'm hopeful.  I'm running out of foods I can eat!

I know from reading all of your comments that this too will pass.  I get so much great information here and I'm so grateful for all of you!

You can not "dump" on meat.  Dumping is a chemical reaction from eating too much sugar or starch.  The undigested sugar hits your intestines and they freak out and flood the intestines with a large amount of fluid (hence the "dumping" of fluid into your system).  The symptoms are rapid heart beat (like you are having a heart attack) sweating, nausea, and diarrhea.  Dumping does not mean you "dump out" (vomit or poop) what ever food is bothering you.

Not every gastric upset is dumping.  Many of us develop food intolerances.  Most of the problems are caused by progressing food plans too quickly, eating too fast, eating too much, or not chewing enough.  Most of us end up getting the "foamies" (where you salivate to excess) from this.  This is not dumping.

If you are not eating sugar, you are not dumping.

I guess we lump uneasiness (feeling like we'll throw up) with "dumping"

You are probably getting things stuck. Happens to me. I've never dumped, but I've managed to steer clear of sugar and maybe that's why

Whether it's "officially" dumping or not, I'm sorry you've been having a rough time!  Here's rooting for the shrimp!!!  Good luck!

Although now I'm wondering if you have a bit of a bug or something that's upsetting your system.  Either way, hope it's better soon!

Awe that's not cool. Yes so far you have been doing great!!  Hopefully this will pass. Have you tried a different part of the chicken?  I can not stand chicken breast, but the thigh no problem. Also maybe some sort of a sauce?  Also turkey thighs are good to. Good luck with the salmon.  Let us know

the fish was a little better (not great).  I'd rather not eat.

Gee I feel so bad for you right now (hugs). It's hard to get your protein when you can't eat it, and don't like the protein powder anymore. Maybe back to basics?  Try a few days with protein powder and reintroduce dense protein. I hope some vets here have some advice for you.

FWIW, all three of those foods were tough for me, & shrimp still is tough for me at 2.5 years post op.  I have no problem with steak, salmon, haddock, etc.  Good luck & keep trying different cooking techniques.

Cauliflower almost killed me. I was sick for two days. I had it mushed up, too.

Had plain cooked jumbo shrimp with low salt soy sauce, not a problem and Wendy's chili for dinner. I seem fine.

Earlier this week, roast chicken made me ill. Never had a problem with chicken before. Oy.
