energy level as you lose weight

So, one of the things I was most looking forward to after surgery was improving my energy level. I have a very busy life (guess we all do!) and I was just so exhausted all the time, in every way. After surgery, honestly, that was the same or even worse for quite a while. I kept waiting for a switch to flip. It hasn't worked that way. I started having days where I was just full of energy and did All The Things with energy to spare. And then I would have days where my butt was dragging. Today is a butt dragging day, as was yesterday. But I would definitely say that my high energy days are outnumbering my butt dragging days more and more over the last few months. It was never a sudden thing, and people always say, "Aren't you just having so much more energy?!" and I just kind of pause because, honestly, for quite a long time the answer was "not really", and then "Well, sometimes." and now it's "yes, more and more". I was just curious if others have had the same sort of experience I guess. I'm wondering (maybe because I'm a nurse and I love physiology type stuff) if my energy is lagging on days when things are happening on the scale. I've never tried to match it up that way. Maybe energy lags just before a loss, or just after, or something like that?or maybe it's something we aren't able to measure that way, I don't know. I have cut out some stray carbs that have crept into my diet and the scale has made a drop, so maybe there's a correlation there for me this week? I always look first to make sure I'm still getting my protein, my fluids, my supplements. I did test low on iron and they raised that at my last check up. Often my fluids are lacking when my energy is low. Anyway. Guess I'm just thinking out loud and looking for more observations.

I hit a wall at 5 or 6 months, for a month or two. Tired all the time. I didn't change anything, and it passed. Just a phase, I guess.

Don't make the mistake of thinking it's lack of food. That's the evil voice in the back of your head trying to fool you into eating more.

took me about 6 months or so, then each day i became stronger.

i still have exhausting days but when I see what I accomplished DURING that day it makes sense! An example last month was hauling 1/2 of river sand into a chicken pin. never could have done that before.

That's so true! I dug four big holes and planted rose bushes yesterday, two the day before that. That was not even an option 100 pounds ago. Last time I bought roses, I bought one bush and made my husband dig the hole, lol.

One thing I notice is that when it's bed time, it's seriously BED TIME. I just conk out a lot earlier than what I'm used to.

But I'm up bright and early and ready to start my calorie burning activities

Me too! I'm staying with my sister and her wife for the next couple of months (new city, new job) and there are two boys under five in the house. I can't BELIEVE the energy the two moms have! The boys go off to be around 8, and at 9pm I'm checking my watch to see if it's bedtime yet... I go to bed between 10:00- 10:30 most nights and they stay up. The 2yr old is up at six and I'm still sluggish and sleepy! Once I'm up and moving it's fine, but WOW does my body WANT eight hours of sleep!

When did you have surgery?

So.. here's my story. My partner is a normal weighted guy. He's never been obese or SMO. He's 42 and started running 5-6 years ago. He's a marathoner now and trains 3-4 days a week. He also have a ridiculous commute and a busy life in general.

And you know what? He has days where he has no energy and his butt is dragging and he skips running and doesn't want to do anything.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that this is something everyone experiences from time to time. :)

If it's frequent and concerning, please see your doctor and make sure that your vitamin and mineral levels are good, that your thyroid is okay, and all that other good stuff.
