The scale hasn't moved in a week. I have heard of the dreaded 3 week stall, but how long does it last? Can people look at my menu and see if there is an area I can improve in? I am eating 600-800 cals per day with 60-80g of protein and 64-80oz of water. My normal day looks like this as I am just ending the puree phase:

Breakfast: Premier Protein

Snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: chicken broth with soft veg. Or a pureed meat and veg

Dinner: pureed meat, veg, 1/4 cup of mashed pot per my Dr's plan

Sometimes I will have another protein shake if I need to catch up on that.

I meet with the nutritionist on Friday but I am a bit stressed about this. I am supposed to advance to ground, soft, moist tomorrow but am a little scared of gaining.

Congratulations on being on schedule for your first stall! Totally normal.

Stick to 600 calories for a while. Ditch the mashed potatoes, they do absolutely nothing for you. I'd skip the veggies too.

At this stage, it shouldbe almost all protein. Getting more water can only make you feel better too.

Now I am just confused. Here is the sample menu they gave me for the next two weeks. Should I not be eating most of these things??

Obviously it's up to you if you want to follow your doctor's guidelines, and no one will tell you to go against your doctor if you feel his plan works for you.

But what I will tell you is that what I have learned from the successful Vets here, is that our doctor's and their Nutritionists don't understand the way a WLS patient really needs to eat.

cereal, toast, oatmeal, canned fruit, bananas, mashed potatoes... etc.

Those are all wasted calories, filled with carbs that will keep you hooked to the carb addiction.

Concentrate on things like high protein/low sugar yogurt, cheese, meats (as you progress you'll be able to eat a better variety), and then only if you have room low carb veggies. This early out you can have cottage cheese, hummus, yogurt (only the good stuff if you want the protein numbers to add up), eggs (scrambled, hard boiled, made into breakfast muffines), and protein shakes until you get further out to keep your numbers high. Check out the menu post and see what other people are eating... you can get very creative!

I would never have been successful if I had eaten those things.

I am 9 years post op RNY. At goal and below. I would be getting really sick and gaining weight if I try to follow that diet.

toast? potatoes? The only time i eat bread when i am well below my goal.

but I eat eggs, and bacon, and fat... all the time... the carbs - that may prevent you to lose weight.

As pammie said, cereal, toast, oatmeal, canned fruit, bananas, mashed potatoes are not things you should be eating. Cereal, toast and crackers should be off your list forever. They are just useless calories that will make your blood sugar spike and cause cravings for more.

A good rule of thumb is you should be getting at least ten grams of protein for every 100 calories. Preferably a lot more. That way you'd be getting 60 grams of protein for 600 calories.

Most nutritional programs we are given are horrible. These were designed by people who have never been morbidly obese, and have never gone through WLS.

mine lasted two weeks. One of the people on here had her three-week stall last 3.5 weeks (although a week or two is probably more common).

Id stay away from the scale. Right now you're like a marathon runner worrying their pace after the first mile. Just stick with the plan and keep your body moving.

Oh, yes, I was one of the "lucky" people whose 3-week stall lasted 3.5 weeks (UGH!)! But, it did end, and the pounds started dropping off again. Hang in there!

As a lifelong carb addict, all I can see when I look at your new menu is "trigger, trigger, trigger!" Bad carbs like bread, crackers, mashed potatoes and gravy. Lawd. If you're also a carb addict (and most of us are/were), the others are right...stay away from those things. They will just make you want more carbs, which are detrimental to your weight loss, and to retraining your mind to make better, healthier choices. Plus, if you happen to be diabetic, they will also spike your blood sugar.

Personally, I'd leave off the toast and crackers entirely...complete waste of calories. I'd replace the mashed potatoes with mashed cauliflower, and probably replace the lite fruit with fruit-flavored yogurt instead.
