Hot tea

Has anyone else's surgeon banned hot tea forever? I'm deep in mourning for my beloved tea time. And my tea! Tea time isn't the same without tea.

Nope, I believe you are the first in history to have hot tea banned.

Did the surgeon provide a rationale for banning hot tea? I was served hot tea in the hospital after surgery, as well as hot coffee. I know many don't want us to have caffeine, but there are many herbal teas. Well, I'm sure curious! Tea time without tea is just not right.

My surgeon suggested replacing my beloved coffee with herbal tea. It's the caffeine he wants replaced, but has no problem with caffeine free herbal tea

From her post-surgical handout:

"NEVER drink cola of any kind (diet or not), coffee of any kind, or black, green, or white tea. They all have acids that can damage your stomach and appetite stimulants that will sabotage you! Herbal tea is fine to drink and counts toward your 64 ounces of water."

So I'm not allowed my black tea. Or iced tea. Herbal tea is...well, herbal. It's not really tea. I'm going to have to scout far and wide to find an herbal substitute.

("My" tea was a tea called Buccaneer--black tea with coconut and chocolate and vanilla notes. I drank it every day.)(I might be a bit of a tea snob.)

I drink enough decaf coffee to keep Dunkin in business. I was served decaf in the hospital and also black tea (didn't drink either there, but I love it now). This is very weird advice.

P.S. I also drink Diet Cola (not like I drink Decaf, but maybe...3x/week?) and that's not been a problem either.

My handbook says "NEVER chew gum again", also don't follow that.

I drink 24 to 36 ounces of HOT decaf green tea daily. I'd love to read the rest of his program. Sounds like a joy. And yes I checked with my surgeon about my quantity and I got thumbs up

I've seen tea almost universally recommended, usually to help people get their fluids in.

Keep in mind that drinking tea within about 2 hours of eating iron rich foods, or iron supplements, means you won't absorb most of the iron.
