Gum

My surgeon is not the one who gave me my eating plan. He was just my surgeon but one thing he said was, never, ever chew gum. If you accidentally swallow you will see me again. I don't chew gum because in nurses trading my instructor pulled aside and asked if I knew I chewed gum like a cow. 49 years ago.. some things you never forget . But anyway my surgeon was Dr. Tim Thompson at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mn. Just saying this is what he said.

I have not swallowed a piece of gum since I was 5 years old so I chew it. I guess I like living dangerously

I'm like Laura, I like living on the edge.

My doctor's NUT poo-poo'd gum too...

I chew probably 3-5 pieces a day... I haven't swallowed one yet

(but I have thought about it, and how soft it is, and how it would get broken down and probably slide through anyway... I don't get how it would get stuck... but then I used to swallow it when I was a kid and 'they' told me I would have a big giant gum ball in my stomach... maybe that's how I got so SMO?!)

Add me to the living dangerously group. I can chew gum and not swallow it, so it's not a problem for me. I have a 55 piece container sitting on my desk right now.

I'm with your nursing instructor, I don't think a lot of people realise how horrible gum chewing can look and sound.

I think if you can do it, silently, and without showing everyone what you're chewing, you should have at it.

I am so with you -- I find gum chewing to mostly be a disgustingly rude and annoying habit.

I also think it makes our bodies release insulin -- the fat hormone

OMG I must say that I had a great laugh reading all the replies.

I never really ever saw myself as living dangerously and on the edge! Lol

Add me to the list...

O am 53 & I have never ever swallowed a piece of gum.

I'm embarrassed for all of you. I can chew gum AND walk. If you need lessons, I can put together a Youtube video for you.
