Struggling to stay on track!

I am STRUGGLING big time! My diet/lifestyle choices have been awful lately. I'm working on getting back on track but it's been so hard. I hit a 6 week stall and I am having the hardest time staying motivated and not just throwing my arms up and saying "screw it!".... I know that it will pass and I know exactly what I need to do/improve to get my success moving along in the right direction again but I could really use any words of encouragement or advice. I've completely strayed from the OH forum, I haven't been good about my water intake, I can't stay away from grazing and it seems like I'm mostly grazing on carbs and I can't get my butt moving like I'm supposed to everyday (I did do over a 5k jog on the treadmill last week though - never thought I'd ever be able to say that!). I know the changes I need to make, I just really need some encouraging and loving words. 50 pounds to goal and it's getting so hard! Thanks in advance, everyone. Don't know what we'd all do withought each other's support!

It would really help if you put your surgery date in your profile. I don't know if you are 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years out. You would get different advice for all those 3.

I'm not sure how to add it. Have tried to figure it out a couple times. Any guidance is appreciated :)

On the bar above, to the right, there's a little cog, (between the bell and the plus) press that then go down to medical history and fill it in with surgical type and the date.

Hope this helps and thanks ;-)

I did just that and my computer shows that I already have my surgeon and date listed. I wonder why it's not showing up. So confused

Hi Mandi

What I am going to tell you I guarantee you don't want to hear. You are approx 7 months post op and you just need to put your big girl panties on and suck it up and QUIT THE DAMN CARBS! Either you want to change or you don't. No one here on OH can make that decision for you.

You posted on May 30th of this year that you were struggling. Here we are two months later and you obviously didn't take any of the amazing advice that you were given back in May.

ETA: I had a lot more in my original post but OH seemed to eat it up... so finishing it here:

It doesn't matter if you stay on or away from OH, exercising does not help the weight loss (for the most part) it helps tone the body and it helps our mental health but it will not hugely contribute to your loss. Low calories, high protein, and super low carb is what will get you to your goal.

You are not in a stall you are in maintenance. You are eating way to many carbs, plain and simple. You openly admit it on your post in May and here today.

If you know the changes you need to make (your words) why are you not making them? No one here on OH can make you change. We can offer suggestions, give advice and point you in the right direction but ultimately you have to put in the work.

There is no magic, this is not a "cure," WLS is a tool. Think of it as a screwdriver. If you hold the screwdriver in your hand but don't turn it the screw will never go in. The tool needs work behind it. We all have to "work" our tools. This is hard work no doubt about it.

If you think losing weight and getting to goal is hard wait until you hit maintenance. I am almost 4 years out and I struggle daily, I have to keep focused every minute of the day, yes its exhausting but I am not going back to being obese, well at least that is the plan I have for myself, so far so good.

I am only posting back to you to be supportive, I don't believe in the hand holding and coddling of people who are struggling. Yes I acknowledge you are struggling and happy to support you by having you join us o the menu thread daily. You will get lots of great food ideas and support. But only you can stop the carb grazing. You can post a menu and only you will know if in fact that is what you actually eat.

Mandi you came this far, get your butt back in the game girl. YOU CAN DO THIS! I was addicted to sugar & carbs (like bread & pasta) pre surgery and if I can do it you can do it.

Best wishes Mandi, I truly hope you figure this out and get back on track!

So, it's hard to hear it, but what Daisy just said is the honest to goodness truth.

7 months out, I was really pretty strict with myself. Just like all of us told you a few months ago, you have to suck it up and just do it.

You still have time to do this, if you want to.

Giving up carbs (NO MANGOS IN YOUR DRINK... START THERE), sucks. There's no nice way to say that. They are addictive. NO, you cannot have a donut every once in a while if you are truly trying to get to a weight goal. No, you don't need mangos in your protein drinks if you are trying to get to goal. You don't need crackers, oatmeal, potatoes, or onion rings either. Salad IS NOT the healthy option on the menu at lunch today, neither is soup (you don't need to be mixing your solids and liquids anyway)... MEAT IS THE GOOD HEALTHY CHOICE... if your braces hurt, order a burger, sans the bun and chop it up into tiny pieces. No, you don't need more food just because people think you're not eating enough in front of them - you had your stomach cut on, you don't have the room.

It sucks.

But if you want it badly enough you will make the changes to do it. But only YOU can make that decision.

Oh, and you don't need exercise either right now if that's adding to your stress. Work on your DIET. Then you can add exercise later when you have the diet under control.

Sorry, this rainbow unicorn has no rainbows to send to you today.

Make a commitment to 7 days of nothing but meat and cheese... just 7 days... and go from there.

At 7 months you also don't need the protein shakes if that helps to get the sweet tastes out of your system. Have an egg and bacon... make egg muffins with cheese and sausage and then you can heat them up each day... hell, eat leftover food from the good choice dinner you make tonight.

You have to want this... and all the whining in the world won't make it happen unless you make the right choices.

Sorry, I know you wanted a great big hug and flowers and feel goods... I don't have them to give today.

You're absolutely right. You and Daisy are 100% right. It's time to get back to it and quit with the excuses. I have to be responsible for me and do what I need to do to stay on track. Working on working on myself and doing what I need to do to take care of myself has been the hardest part because I'm so used to meeting everyone else's needs and pleasing everyone else. Emotional eating is a HUGE part of the equation for me. I'm going to keep going though. Thanks for the reality check!
