Surgery was 7/21/17, I'm hungry!

Good afternoon! I had surgery last week. I can't really get much down but I swear I'm having ghost hunger. I would love to eat a single oreo or anything I can chew. Today is the second day I got all my fluids in. I'm feeling my energy come back but with it is hunger. I've only had maybe 500 calories with the protein drinks, water and broth each day. I'm down 12 lbs since surgery. I saw the doc today to have the drain removed. I would love to have yogurt or cheese but he didn't clear me to go to soft foods.

Anyone else hungry this early? I know we will lose weight fast but isn't this too fast?

The not chewing is the worst! I remember when I got cleared for soft foods--pintos and cheese from Taco Bell had never tasted so good. You're doing well--remember you're likely feeling head hunger than true hunger. Stick to your plan and you will be successful. :D

Taco Bell beans and cheese was my first meal, also!! Actually, my first 3 meals, I think...from the SAME container :)

That was definitely on my list of things I ate first as well! And I distinctly remember bringing that little bowl home and eating on it for a few meals myself! Funny how things like that tasted so dang good back then!

Hi Laurel,

Congratulations on your surgery, and on your 12-lb. loss! That is wonderful! And no, it really isn't too fast. Embrace this period! Many here who are dealing with the tough reality of maintenance or who are trying to reverse regain, 3 years out, would love to be back in the honeymoon period!

You will soon be able to add in soft foods (no Oreos, though!). If you really want to bite something, how about a frozen-solid sugar free popsicle?

I think you may be dealing with head hunger, not actual physical hunger. Your innards are just beginning to heal, your nerves have been cut, the signalling has been disrupted. As folks here often say, we have surgery on our stomachs, not our brains! Try not to focus on the foods you are missing. Just imagine the gorgeous outfits you'll soon be able to wear, the beautiful shoes! Imagine looking slender and pretty, and feeling vital and even athletic! It is all within reach.

I wish you good luck. Hang in there, you will be able to have food with more chewable, substantial texture soon.

Your head hunger is strong. It's way too early to start missing oreos. Those evil little basterds (and their evil little cousins) are why you're just now recovering from bariatric surgery instead of heading to the beach to lie on the sand with all the thin people. If you've got bad foods in the cupboard now is the time to throw them out

You should be be thinking about what low-calorie soup (that offers protein) you can purée up and enjoy. **** those Oreos. They're crappy cookies anyway.

The weightloss at the beginning is very extreme. You're barely consuming calories and the fat version of ourselves needs a lot of fuel to keep going. Now is the time to walk, walk and then walk some more. Let the transformation your body is about to have be your inspiration to say bye-bye to the oreos.

Good luck!

The very hungriest I got was during the 2nd or 3rd weeks post surgery. It drove me a little nuts. As soon as I was allowed something to eat on my next stage, it disappeared.

Hang in there. Don't give in. It will pass.

I always say- you know it's head hunger when you crave something specific (Oreo, or a texture). True hunger could be satisfied by anything; craving desire specific responses to pass. I have not felt hunger since before surgery- not everyone's experience, but it make me doubtful that its real hunger.

Lots of tummy healing and general rumblings as a result right now- could be mistaken for hunger.

you got some really good advice here on head hunger. I was 3 days out and my awesome family decided to go to chickfila and eat with me in the car. I almost clawed up the upholstery like a feral cat. it was terribly cruel

When i could have puree, I did eat pintos and cheese are taco bell for several meals. 1/4 cup at a time for my meal times. never over 600 cal for the day. SF popcicles help, and other SF items.

I see you are a GEORGIA gal, me tooo! maybe we can meet up sometime!
