Was wondering can you get a revision on a RNY?

Hi,

As far as I know you can. My girlfriend who is 5 years out and had a staple line issue had a new procedure. Someone else here can chirp in and tell us what the options are? I think its called Apollo?

There is a revision board on here that you can research. Revision

You can revise to a DS, but there are literally about 5 or 6 surgeons in the US with the skill and experience doing them. It is a major, serious operation.

There are a bunch of procedures similar to the Apollo Overstitch mentioned above. Insurance almost never covers them, and they have a very poor track record. Most of the weight loss is from the pre- and post-op liquid diets, and the weight is almost always gained back.

Have you been to a surgeon? If not, you should have a scope and scans to find out exactly what sort of shape your stomach and stoma are in before you think more about revisions.

Sure you can. I had an RNY revision by Dr. Denis Halmi on the 9th of this month. He restitched my pouch, shortened the colon 30cm and reattached it. It has been far easier than the first surgery to adjust to. My first surgery was in 2004. My first was a full incision, this one was laparoscopic.

Hey Jim

You dont have to answer this...but I hope you would.

I had an accident and couldnt work out. I am struggling with some regain. Like it isnt going away as when I first had the surgery.

I see from your stats you also experienced some regain. I am just looking at where I am going wrong. I keep my measuring cups/plates the same. I didnt expect to work out hard this week and GAIN two lbs especially since I have been working out even two weeks earlier (i.e. why am I gaining in the 4th week of working out).

Just looking to see if I fell into a pitfall.

Hi,

You have been doing this a while. Over time you will have weeks that you lose, and weeks that you gain. Don't sweat it, stick to the program, change the regular foods you eat for something different to make sure you body doesn't get complacent. My gains were always from when I fell into a routine, both food and activity. Changing it up hals the keep your body working towards your goal.

I think you can get your pouch made smaller AND/or switch to DS

I'm almost 30 days out from a RNY revision. Mine consisted of making the original pouch much smaller. No re-section of bowel etc. The weight loss that I'm experiencing is slower this time, but I'm also having to re-learn how to eat properly so I've done some dumb things for about two weeks of my first four. I've lost 20 pounds so far. Dr. Constantine Frantzides of Evanston, IL did the revision. He wrote (literally - check him out on Amazon) several key books on the practice of laparoscopic surgery. I live in California but specifically flew back to Chicago and paid cash for the surgery. Why? I wouldn't let any other doctor touch my abdomen. Anyhoo, it's possible to have a revision--with a gifted surgeon.
