Looking for a hypoglycemia mentor

HI Gang,

I took another day off from work because I am still tired and have muscle soreness, like I have been in the most intensive weight loss class of my life.

I have finished half marathons and felt better than this two days later..

So the nurse at work is a little bit on the hyper-thorough side and today she called and requested that I get a hypoglycemia mentor who has had RNY and is/has worked out a way of eating so as not to get the crazy passing out episodes.

I think this is a wonderful idea.

I am looking for a volunteer. Basically, I will try not to be too labor intensive. I am just looking for 1) what should I eat, how often should I eat, what is a portion size.

Worse, is how do I keep my weight down and lose the regain if I am eating carbs and all this food all the time? I tried small portions yesterday (spaghetti and seafood for breakfast, two peanut butter ritz cracker sandwiches at 10 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm) 1/3 of swiss and mushroom burger and some onion rings for lunch, and 1/3 of a chorizo burrito (with tortilla and rice and beans in it) for dinner..

This morning I got up and weighed myself after using the restroom and emptying my bowels and I am up to 161.2 from the 158 lbs I was on Monday when I walked into the ER. This is NOT the way I want the scale to go. Alternatively I dont want to die of low blood sugar either.

I need some help because I feel like I am going to be 170lbs by the time i see the dietician on Monday.

I just want to scream and cry because I feel like I am stuck in the catch-22 and all the hard work I have done over the past 3 years is RAPIDLY flying down the toilet. On a scale of 1-10 for unhappiness and upset, I feel 50. I had to cancel a camping trip with a girlfriend because I am too scared to be out in the woods away from civilization and help with whacked out blood sugar and feeling like I got hit by a bus. I feel so disappointed in me (for the regain, for this hypoglycemic episode, for having to learn how to eat all over AGAIN, for disappointing and scaring two of my closest friends, for missing work, and upsetting the work nurse)...

NYMOM and GRim- I will try to follow your food postings on Daisy's thread. If I ask you weird questions like, why? How much? etc etc...please dont take it as judgement. I am trying to LEARN.

Spinning my wheels and getting NOWHERE

Remember that 3 years is the big "reality check" for a lot of people. With or without blood sugar issues, regain seems to be quite a bit easier at that point.

Hope you can come up with some answers!

Thanks.

I chopped my finger half off and couldnt work out for about 3-4 months...not even walking!

Working out is how I got my weight DOWN and kept it down. What am I going to do with this eating, working out and blood sugar issue?

I was just reading an article from cleveland clinic about RNY and hypoglycemia. Their solution for treating it? A low carb diet followed by abarose then pancreas surgery then reversal of the RNY.

I am already doing low carb.

I wonder if it is an issue of fuel TIMING versus carbs. Like can I eat smaller low carb meals including low carb snack versus a mix of meals with carbs (which have undone 2 weeks of work in 2 days)?

I feel so screwed

I think you may be onto something with the issue of timing. I don't know much about blood sugar issues, but I'd be happy to hit up some of my research sources and see if I can find anything!

I was prescribed Acarbose by my endocrinologist to deal with my Dumping Syndrome. To be honest, I'd rather dump. The side effects of the medication are awful. Gas beyond description, bloating and constipation. I'm not joking when I say there are no words strong enough to describe the gas. Even my dog got up and left the room.

I'd love to get my dog back. He sits behind my chair gassing me all day.

Timing is important to me. I really need to eat something every 3 hours, or I can feel it. Once I go past 4 hours, I really start to feel like crap. Just my guess, but you went way too long in between eating last weekend.

This was an adjustment for me. I used to go 24 hours in between eating when I was SMO. I was like a food camel.

If I'm going to have carbs, I eat the with protein period. none of this eating cupcakes then having to go lay down.. learned my lesson on that one.
