I Had My One Week Post Op Appointment

I had my 1 week post op appointment with my surgeon today. I am 10 pounds heavier than the day I had surgery. I am having difficulty passing the excess gas they put in my abdomen. My incisions are healing well. Did not go home with drains that was awesome. I am still having pain in my abdomen. Hubbie goes back to work tomorrow, he took a week off to be home and help with me and get kids to school. Tomorrow it's all up to me. When I left hospital they changed my long acting insulin from Novolin N morning 55 units and 30 units in evening to Lantus 10 in morning. My Novolog is 30 units at every Meal. Now I am on no Lantus and only 15 units of Novolog in morning only. I am not on fluid pills or blood pressure meds. Surgeon told me to take MiraLax to help pass gas and more bowel movements. Surgeon wants me to return in 2 weeks. Blood test also ordered and blood drawn. Does anyone have any ideas on how to pass this gas other than walking and heating pad? Help this is annoying..........

Hi Dorothy! Congratulations on the beginning of your new life!

I had gas discomfort too, strangely located in the center of my upper back. Gas-X might help, but that depends on where your gas is trapped. For me, time and movement took care of it in a few days. Two days after being released from the hospital, I too was up by a full nine pounds. That is water, inflammation, and your body's way of dealing with the trauma of surgery. In no time it will be gone, and much more besides! Good luck!.

Can you try something like Gas-X. - check with your doc though. Quite a few people in my local support group have used it. Don't worry about the weight gain- your body is swollen and recovering. Before you know it l, the lbs will start dropping.

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

77 lbs lost and counting!

Losing the regain! I got this!

Congrats on your surgery! I'm sorry that you are holding onto your gas so much. Walking really helped me to get things moving. You might want to try that if you aren't already.

I was told to take some Miralax. Having a good BM will get the gas out too. Drinking lots and lots of water... helps with the Miralax and the BM. Once you start to go regularly, you will feel much better. 1 week out is still very new. I know it's a gross topic, but once your system gets regular, you will feel tons better. Don't forget to get that protein in. Liquid protein, miralax and water. :-)

Congrats on reducing your medications-that is awesome! Sorry you are suffering with the gas-the only advice I have is walking and sounds like you are already doing that.
