Rate of Loss

Hi all,

I am a fresh newbie - one week since surgery! Was wondering if you could talk to me about the rate of loss you experienced.

I had my surgery on Friday at 3pm and weighed in at 227.0 - this morning I weighed in at 218.0. I am thrilled but 9 lbs seems like a whole lot in one week. I also lost 15 during my 2 week Optifast lead up.

I know I should just be happy. I am am getting my 60-80 grams of protein. I am just like WOW you know, someone tell me this is totally normal and just celebrate ;-)

Go HERE to use the OH Post-Op planner and see what might be possible with your stats.

We do tend to lose a lot in the beginning. It is perfectly normal and you should celebrate!!

Also, when you read OH posts a lot of people show their monthly losses in their signatures (like me). When I was a newbie, I found it helpful to view them especially for people with a starting weight and goal weight similar to mine.

Just celebrate!

Don't worry about a fast rate of loss... you only have the honeymoon period to get it off, so just do it.

You can see my rates of loss during the first year in my signature line.

You're right, 9lb in a week is a lot. Most people seem to lose quite a bit in the first few weeks post op, so enjoy it while you can!

Once your body gets acclimated to its new situation, your loss will slow down to a pound or two per week-- sometimes less. Slow and steady wins the race!

Celebrate your loss, but also don't panic or be disappointed when you have a stall following a big drop. That is normal too.

I lost very rapidly in the beginning.

Trust me, as time goes on, you will long for these days again. :-)
