Hi I am 5 days into my 2 week liquid diet and I am starving. I am getting the necessary protein from my shakes but I am still hungry-is this normal???

It's absolutely normal. Of course you are hungry -- it's not about just meeting your nutritional requirements: liquid shakes go right through you and leave you hungry.

The pre-op liquid diet is hard. No doubt!

Thanks. Others have told me since I'm getting protein I shouldn't feel hungry. My stomach no longer grows from hunger but I still feel headaches and slight hunger pains. I tried broth and jello but that does not really satisfy much.

Drinking warm teas helped me during that time. I had to use decaffeinated tea or coffee... I used some herbal teas, or even broth. Chicken or beef broth, or really full of minerals bone broth. It was hard. But I was determined to keep the diet.

Others that told you that are full of it.

I promise you, you aren't alone. I was hungry the whole time!

As others mentioned, the savory of broth really helped me.

That pre-surgery diet is the worst! Hang in there and stay the course, so worth it in the end!

I did A LOT of beef broth... like filled a 32 ounce glass with it and drank it all the time... but in the end, nothing really helps because your brain fights you to the end!

drink all the broth tea and eat all the sf jello u can hold. I would drink 4-5 cups of broth, one right behind the other and eat an entire package of prepared jello at one sitting to keep from being hungry.

You really can't overeat on these items at this point.

Thank you all for the advice. I upped the intake of broth and jello and I feel a little better. I am determined to keep the pre-surgery diet!

  • I just had Surgery Monday. The two week per op diet was horrible, but I did loose 21 lbs on it. What I tried to tell myself is at least I won't see that number on the scale again, and after surgery your not hungry at all.
