had my 1 month follow up today. Blood work was perfect, so no more protein shakes woohoo. Weight loss was 34 pounds and I'm very happy with that. I now move on to phase 4 diet plan. More veggies and fruit now.

How much fruit is suggested in your surgeon's plan? Many successful folks here eat little to no fruit until they reach goal in order to keep carbs as low as possible.

My nut said I could have a half of a peeled apple as a snack or half of a banana but to keep it very moderate. Also fresh berries.

Many nutritionists are woefully uneducated about an appropriate post-op eating plan, so I would take this advice with a grain of salt.

You should be shooting for 600 - 800 calories, 60+g protein, under 25g carbs per day. Your food choices, especially early out, should be protein-forward. It's hard to hit minimum protein levels when you're filling your pouch with other snacks, especially ones that take up half of your daily carb allowance in a single meal.

Protein snacks are a much better choice. Lunchmeat, jerky, string cheese, yogurt, etc.

My doctor was present during the conversation with the in house nut. I understand what your saying, however if he had a problem with it I am sure he would have said something. Moderation was emphasized also. I am also cleared to a "little" raw veggies also. Every surgeon has their own protocol and I have complete faith in mine.

Glad to hear that you're confident in your surgeon's instructions. Just remember that most of us who ended up morbidly obese are historically terrible at "moderation." :)

Let me clear on this, I am not nor would I ever tell anyone to disregard their doctors instructions. What works for me won't nessecarily work for someone else.

As medical patients, we're not nearly as special as we might think. Bariatric patients generally have a LOT of things in common, medically speaking. Recommendations are based on huge quantities of patients' experiences.

If including carbs in your diet works for you, more power to you, and good luck. Just make sure not to claim that any specific diet "works" for you until you have long-term evidence to back up that assertion.

Again, I did not imply that anyone should eat fruit or veggies. I was not recommending anything. You are the one recommending certain food intakes to the general audience. And I urge everyone to follow their "doctors recommendation " not the recommendations of anyone else. Now I am done with this conversation. Have a great thanksgiving and eat healthy and be blessed.
