Just curious about your sugar experience

Dumping does not happen when you eat too much or too fast. That is something else, and which I have experienced a couple of times (e.g. foamies, severe nausea). I have eaten some sugar post-GB and have not had any issues doing so or dumping, nor have I experienced RH. Everyone is different.

(FYI - I am currently below goal weight and in maintenance.)

My RH started app 10 months post op RNY and it got worse with time.

I have still kept any sugar content below 10g per serving, aside from dairy or fruit. I do not do well with simple carbs (RH) so I just chosen to assume I would react poorly to sugar.

I'd like to avoid any problems if I can. The worst problem I can think of is that nothing will happen and I will eat ALL THE CANDY and ICE CREAM in the world.

I seriously doubt you have consumed zero grams of sugar a day since your surgery. Sugar is naturally found in lots of things- milk, yogurt, fruit, etc.

I did not eat anything with more than 6 grams of sugar in a serving until after I reached goal. Now at 9 years out I eat things with added sugar from time to time. Sometimes it makes me sleepy and I take a nap. I do not get sick otherwise.

I agree with Laura. Just as an FYI, I have pretty bad RH, and my worst reactions have been off of naturally occurring sugars, i.e., the milk in a latte. Depending on the day and other cir****tances, my blood sugar will fall like a brick 2 hours after finishing a coffee. I'm talking like a blood glucose level in the 29-39 range.
