The Coldest Winter Was The Winter I Spent In New York After My Gastric Bypass

I generally hate things like "puffy" coats, wool hats, scarves. Even when it comes to gloves I prefer fingerless. I know there's a lot of fellow North Easterners and many Canadians in here so I'll keep my griping to a minimum but wow.... it's been quite a week!

Hi Scott! I don't know how much this advice would be contraindicated by having had a gastric bypass, but had you not had one, adding warming spices like ginger, cardamom, coriander, peppers, etc. to your diet would help you to stay warmer. These can be decocted (boiled) into teas and taste good. They are very warming.

I do like all those things so I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

I live in extreme upstate NY and I'm dying. I thought I was ok, but then it hit single digits and even some negative temps and I literally can't get warm except in the shower and bed.

I can't imagine. Honestly the temps aren't too horrible. But when there's wind? There's literally pain involved!

Canadian here. Those temps are why everyone who lives in the northeastern US and Canada look like the Michelin man! Function over form. I recommend silk next to your skin and wool on the outside of that and those puffy down coats but get everything as long as you can find it. Down coats don't work if they are bomber style jackets! lol Get some good socks and a good friend to cuddle wink wink

I know the newbies check the trackers and the signatures so although I kind of lost track of how the rest of the weight came off, you should know that it was not fast and furious but it was slow and steady!

current BMI 24.7 that, my friends, is NORMAL!!! Strong is the new pretty!

I actually bought some outdoorsy wool socks and have been using them fairly regularly. I do have a really warm down vest.

Not it sure what to do with my nose. Now I walk around with Kleenex even though I don't have a cold.

Canadian here too. Northwestern Ontario, and it's a cold winter so far for us already. I'm cold all the time (and I'm allergic to wool! LOL). I had to buy a new winter coat already and I've developed a serious sweater obsession... I am eating a lot of ginger/cinnamon etc. and drinking as much herbal tea, including decaf chai, as I can suck down. I bought a new thermos and insulated travel mug which I take everywhere full of hot tea.

I can't even imagine what living through winter is like for you. We do get 50-60 degree Fahrenheit days here on occasion. Even in Jan or Feb. Honestly I can't complain too much but this last week it's been mostly sub-freezing temps and we've had 3 snowfalls. Climate change I guess.

Prior to WLS I was hot all the time. Post WLS I get cold at anything below 70 degrees. I have coats in every room and never leave home without Hot Hands in my purse and I live in Southern California LOL... I don't think I'd ever go outside if I lived back east. You guys are tough cookies!

Stay warm!
