Hi All,

My Mom died suddenly yesterday and I was wondering if tou can get dehydrated from crying? Should I be drinking more liquids?? I'm only 11 days out from surgery and still on full liquids.

tThanks,

Gerry

So sorry for your loss, that is heartbreaking.

It never hurts to drink more fluids.

Take care of yourself.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

I can't answer your question, but just wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. Try to get in as much liquid as you can and continue to take care of yourself during this difficult time. It can be hard to do so in such a tough situation, but you really need to take care of yourself especially so early post-op. Hang in there - it will get better. I lost my Mom 15 years ago after a long illness and it was still difficult. I can't imagine how painful a sudden loss would be.

I'm very sorry.

While I can't speak to dehydration - you can get physically worn out from the act of grieving. While grief isn't a physical activity, you will likely find that you need to be kind to yourself and let yourself rest more than you think you'd need to. (This was a surprise to me when my dad died - that a non-physical thing would wear me out so much.)

Make sure that you get your liquids and protein in and try to take care of yourself as best as you can. Don't be afraid to ask friends for specific help - people often don't know what specific help to offer even though they truly do want to help.

So sorry about your mom.

I doubt the loss of fluid from tears can be any worse then having the surgery during summer when we're sweating much more but I'd still be extra vigilant in getting fluids in. Your body is in a vulnerable state and stress does not only exist in our minds.

The one thing I will offer is that you should not give any thought to the way others are perceiving your grief. Just like they instruct passengers on a plane; make sure you put your oxygen mask on first before you help others. Hang in there.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

The best thing you can do, physically, is drink, drink, drink. Keep those fluids up.

I hope you feel better soon.
