I want to revise from band to RNY. I also have Hypothyroidism. How did you mentally and physically prepare yourself for surgery?

I have hypothyroidism as well... I keep it under control with Synthroid. My doctor wasn't concerned since my numbers had been stable for a while before I sought WLS. Apparently it didn't affect my weight loss goals.

How did I get mentally prepared?

I read A LOT on this board and two others that I found. I went to the classes my doctor suggested, talked with people that I knew that had had this (and other surgeries), and honestly, just kept researching over and over and over...

Physically?

I'll admit to not doing much until it was time for the pre-op diet. Not the best way to go, but it was my path. There are a lot of things you CAN do physically though to help you out... stop drinking while you eat would be my number one suggestion, because that's a tough one to accomplish.

Good luck to you!

Talk to the surgeon who would do the revision; s/he may have some requirements as far as medical condition, pre-op testing, pre-op diet, and such.

I revised from band to sleeve. I developed severe acid reflux so that bad had to go. Mentally I struggled with the thoughts of things being rearranged inside of me. I cried on the day of my surgery with my surgeon I was so nervous. She has a great bedside manner. Physically I started walking, drinking 64 ounces of water and not eating and drinking at the same time. Best wishes in your journey!
