Weight loss years later

I had rny 15 years ago. I lost all my weight and got down to 120 lbs. I was too thin and was able to get up to 140 lbs. I maintained this weight for 7 years. Over the past 8 years, I put a little on each year and now I have 40 lbs to loose.

How have you been successful losing weight years later? I am trying the Keto diet now but not sure this is the best plan to follow.

I think most people here will agree that the best/most effective way to get back on track is to go back to basics...

Keto is probably pretty close to what most do here (although, I'll admit to not knowing the details of Keto, however all of the recipes I've used work well with low carb eating)

Dense proteins... measure and weigh your food... eat the protein first, then small amounts of non starchy veggies.

Log your calories into something like My Fitness Pal

Don't drink while you eat or for 30 minutes afterwards - Very Important!

Get plenty of water in, at the very least 64 ounces, but the majority around here go for 100 ounces

No carb 'crap'... get rid of crackers/cereals/potatoes/chips/ etc from your reach.

White Knuckle it! This **** is hard!

And, you can do it if you put your mind to it (That's what everyone says, I'm dealing with my first gain since surgery... and while it's still single digits, it's still hard!)

We have a daily menu post you can/should join. Great support, great ideas for menu ideas, and great accountability.

Good luck!

Hi! I had RNY GBS in 2007 and have also gained a few extra pounds that I'm trying to get rid of. I totally lost my way and was eating carbs and drinking with my food. As of January 2nd, I started back on the original GBS diet - no sugar, extra low carbs, no drinking with food, etc. I've been able to lose around 7 lbs. Slowly coming off and sometimes I get inpatient but I know it's a lifelong change so I must take it easy.

Good luck! There's a lot of us here running into the same issue. We can do it together! :)

I agree with everything Pammie said - I ignored my regain for the past couple of years and now am working on a 50 lb regain !! About two weeks ago, I cut all of the crappy carbs out (usually eat 20-30 carbs/day, that come from vegetables or my whole grain pita bread), loading up with protein (averaging 100g/day), measuring every ounce and gram of food that I am going to eat for the day, and logging everything on myfitnesspal.

I'm down 9 lbs today since starting on January 5th, so it is possible !!

And waiting to drink at least 1/2 hour to an hour after a meal may seem small, but it is HUGE !!

The keto diet is fat first and most. Bypass is protein first.

You must have some good habits to have maintained your loss for 7 years.

I have yet to find the diet plan where pastry is first.

I started Keto on December 11th and lost 18 lbs in 5 weeks. I eat more protein than is really recommended on Keto but we have to! I try to keep my total carbs under 13g and eat between 950-1000 calories a day. I hope that helps!
