Sleeve to RNY

Hi everyone! I was sleeved in 2009 and lost 136 in just over a year. I was 20 lbs from my goal but my body just stopped losing. I've had a regain of 55 lbs most during the last 4 years. I met with a surgeon Friday to discuss what could be done. I knew I had a hiatal hernia, but what I didn't know is that it is huge, or in the surgeons words, "QUITE IMPRESSIVE" and that my stomach is shoved up through the hole in my diaphragm. How I gained so much weight back is confusing. He said he could do a RNY and also an intensive repair to the hernia. I'm terrified! Good grief, I had 85% of my stomach cut out and really want this weight gone, I just don't know what to do. I know the hernia needs fixed as I've been throwing up for about 3 years because if it. I've got GERD really bad and Dr. says a RNY would cure that issue. Has anyone here gone from sleeve to RNY? I've posted on sleeve board/revision with little no no responses. I'd love to hear experiences. Thanks so much!

There are several folks here that have had a sleeve to RNY revision. It will definitely help with your GERD.

But please understand that you will be able to 'eat around' this surgery just like you've done with the sleeve surgery. Might want to dig deep and perhaps even consider a little counseling so you can get your brain around the eating issues, or you will find out that you'll either not lose, or regain any loss eating wrong.

Unfortunately our brains don't get cut on, and believe me, they know how to cheat the system and eat around any surgery you might consider.

Good Luck!

I revised to RNY to address my GERD that resulted from my VSG. Do you have any particular questions? I'd be more than happy to answer questions you may have.

Gaining weight back is super easy. I imagine with the discomfort from GERD you may have been eating things like crackers which will moosh down to nothing and before you know it, you've eaten a whole sleeve of Ritz. I might know this from personal experience. :D Also, for a lot of people, reflux feels like hunger, so you may have been eating more often. Liquid calories are a big culprit as well. Things like Frappuccinos and half and half in your coffee add up horrifyingly fast.

I hope you get some relief from your GERD with the revision and your hernia fix goes well. You got this! :D

YES!!! Ritz crackers were my acid absorber of choice. Before my conversion to RNY, they were basically all I could eat that didn't cause acid. Those round little buggers added 12 lbs! Haven't had a Ritz since!

A sleeve of Ritz CRACKers has 560 calories. Don't ask me how I know this.

Chocolate chips for baking are 70 calories per serving. The jumbo bag has 45 servings. Don't ask me how I know this.

My pouch is completely immune to the effects of Ritz crackers. I can eat them all day long. How do I know this?

You know what Crackers are? Small pieces of toast. Instead of getting tiny pieces of bread that you have to toast yourself, the nice people at Ritz thoughtfully toasted them for you. And cut off the crust.
