Hi. I'm new here. On day 2 of optifast and I'm really struggling today. I don't feel hungry but not feeling satisfied at all. I think I'm really in my head about it. Getting freaked out about surgery on the 27th. Anyone have any advice on how to get through these struggles. All I want to do right now is eat.

You can do it! I'm two weeks in, and also have surgery scheduled for February 27th. The 2nd day was one of the hardest, then it got to be routine.

The last couple of days, I've been having "fun" with my shakes by adding extracts to change the taste. So far I've tried Chocolate with Peppermint extract and Vanilla with Lemon extract.

I also try to drink a lot of water between shakes. I find it helps.

I find broth extremely satisfying but that's mostly because I crave savory flavors. You can add unflavored protein to that, or Unjury brand has a chicken soup flavor. The first 2-3 days are the worst .

Let me just take a moment to say IT. IS. HARD. but I swear by day five it's just routine and you are no longer really hungry. It takes a lot to get there though. You hit it bang in though when you said not really hungry just not satisfied. Every time I thought oh I'm hungry I stopped myself and said are you actually hungry right now? Or just think you need to eat? If I thought I needed to eat I had something low cal like sugar free jello or a sugar free Popsicle, or had water, or made broth. Between the shakes and broth or jello I knew I wasn't hungry but atleast fulfilled my need to eat at the time. Then once you get through the first days you don't seem to need that as much. Or at least I didn't. And I have made sure to change up the flavours in my shakes for variety, that helped. Good luck!

Yes I agree it is really hard but doable, and no you're not really hungry you just want to eat something and we all know what that is like, part of the reason we got here.

I'm at day 11 and would still really like something to chew on but you get used to the shakes and as long as you space them out well it won't be a problem.

Good luck looks like you only had to do 2 weeks.

I had a ravenous appetite. It was terrible. Only lost 13 lbs on opti. Was starving every minute of every day. Its only temporary. Just keep telling yourself that. I woke from surgery with no appetite at all...that was gone and has not returned yet. Decafe tea helped me big time. Something about warm liquids that soothed the hunger pain away. Hang in there. Been 12 weeks and down 67 lbs as of yesterday. Been fast and furious.
