Looking for Plastic Surgeon

Help...

I am looking for a plastic surgeon to do a lower body lift after having lost over 200 pounds. I did post this in the plastic surgery forum too, but this site gets more traffic, so thought I would post it here as well.

I live in South Dakota and am having a hard time finding a good plastic surgeon. My bariatric doctor recommended one that works in the same hospital that she does. I was supposed to meet with him on April 16th. I saw a Facebook post yesterday afternoon complete with horrible horrible pictures of a botched surgery ( breast reduction). The poor girl had to go to a different surgeon and ended up completely losing her breast. I am cancelling that appointment today. This girl also put her very negative review on the hospitals web site.

I realize that I am going to have to leave the state for surgery, and I am hoping that someone here has had a great experience with a plastic surgeon somewhere around me (within a few states away maybe) that has had this type of surgery or at least something similar.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

Tammy

If your insurance will be covering this, start by calling them and getting a list of in-network providers. Then you can start googling their offices and looking for patient reviews.

If you are looking to travel, you might want to contact Dr. Joseph Michaels in the DC area https://www.josephmichaelsmd.com/ Many people on this site have used him and have only great things to say. He works with people who will be traveling, so even though it isn't close, he still might be a good fit for you. I know that NYMom on this site traveled to have surgery with him and has great things to say.

Check out the reviews here on OH, on RealSelf.com and on his website.

I have a consult with him in June for a fall surgery (LBL/BL)

Edited to add that Dr. Michaels is well known for doing post-WLS body sculpting, so he knows what he is doing with a major weight loss.

I live near Brookings, so I'm clear on the other side of the state. I did finally find a place that I feel comfortable with near Minneapolis, MN. I called and spoke with them, asked a few questions and decided to go ahead with a consult with her. The earliest I could get in for a consult was Oct. 9th. Apparently she has a very busy practice.

Alot of people wait till they have a stable weight for awhile. Kind of to see where it all settles at. Maybe a good thing to wait till October .

I live in Wisconsin and have been looking around MN/WI/IL. I'll most likely go to the Chicago area (and I've started doing consults there), but Dr. Tholen and Dr. Gervais (they're in the same clinic) in Minneapolis are supposedly very good, according to what I've read. I'm just mentioning them since you're willing to go to the Twin Cities area.

Also check realself.com. Lots of patient reviews of various surgeons - some include before/after pictures.

Hi catwoman7

If you are interested in going to Chicago I have a great PS for you. Dr. Fenner did all my PS.
