My surgery is scheduled for Thursday April 26th 2018. I am so worried about not waking up or having complications. I know this is the best thing for me ,still very nervous. I was 360lbs /5"10 since being on Optifast for the last 2 and a half weeks I am down 15 lbs. Just really hoping and praying things will go smoothly. Any support would be greatly appreciated :)

Last minute nerves are common. Complications are rare and I'm sure you'll do fine. Sending positive thoughts your way. Hang in there. Like many others on these boards, my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner.

very common. I was very nervous as well. You'll wake up. Mortality rate on gastric bypass surgery is 0.3% - that is extremely low - on the far low end compared to other surgeries. It's lower than hip replacement surgeries, and those are done every day. My surgeon has been doing WLS for 20 years and has never lost a patient. I wouldn't worry about that at all (although to be honest, I worried about it as well - I think it's just natural!). It's not the same surgery as it was in the 1960s and 70s. It's become a very common, routine surgery and techniques have greatly improved over the years. You have a 99.7% chance of pulling through it - those are some pretty good odds! I have no doubt at all that you'll wake up just fine!

complications aren't that common and most are minor and treatable. I had a stricture early out. Those are one of the most common complications of RNY, yet they only affect about 5% of us. And it's a very easy fix.

I have no regrets at all, and like someone else said, I only wish I'd have done this years ago. Best decision I've ever made!

I remember feeling anxious and nervous the days leading up to surgery. For me, it helped to try and stay busy (read, crafts, clean the house). I hope you can find some peace before your surgery.

So normal to feel that way. I was so scared the day of I almost had my husband take me home but I'm so happy I stayed. All of your thoughts and fears went through my brain until I woke up after.

I was scared to death I went in for a VSG on December 11,2017 and came out on December 22 with a RNY. Now I look back and realize it was meant to be. You can't predict the future but better days are ahead for you. I would not change a minute of my surgeries everything happens for a reason.

I was was so scared I took a DNR form in with me and the surgeon said you don't need that. These surgeons are very skilled what your feeling is natural but you'll do great and when it's all over you'll look back and laugh about all the concerns.

I was terrified that I would die on the operating table. I actually wrote goodbye letters to my husband and family members, saved them in my email, and posted my Gmail password on the refrigerator door.

Needless to say, I made it through just fine and trashed those goodbyes!

Good luck!
