Foamies, is there a medical explanation?

Make sure that you're taking TINY bites. Like, each bite should be the size of a grain of rice!

I have know scientific expertise but I am four years out and I still can get the foamies or have something get stuck.

Or have to remind myself that I need to chew and chew but not eat for an hour. So then I would be grazing.

gusing a crockpot helps. Meat stays moist and is easier to eat. Now I can pretty much eat everything as long as I chew.

always try new stuff at home before out. It gets easier

When you have a food that gives you problems give it time before trying again.

i still if I eat too fast I have to walk it off or lay down. I have been very lucky that I have only thrown up a few times.

I'm 7 weeks out as well and have had steak several times with no problems as long as I chew well. I find it a great source of protein. I did however have one episode of foamies when I had eggs for the first time ( but not since). Everyone is different I guess:)

Oh for sure, we all have difference experiences. Since this was new to me I was sure to chew very well and take my time. I'd be surprised if it equalled even half a tablespoon. It just didn't work for me, I'll try again, but not for a while and I'll be home when I do! Lol.

Good question. Because I also got mucusy when pregnant, I was assuming WLS foamies were related to hormone-dumping during the quick weight loss period. (back in 2013ish, someone on here said, "after surgery, your body is in major WTF mode.")

Beside food getting stuck in the stoma, there is also possibilities that your system is not really for that type of food.

Our body - the insides - release digestive enzymes and mucus in response to food - specially the foods that can cause the most histamine response.

On one side too much histamine can cause problems (too much if it can cause allergic reaction) but not enough may prevent digestion and processing of food you eat.

What more - food we eat - specially the proteins, can be full of histamine (when proteins molecules start breaking down - one of the byproduct is histamine. )

FYI: I am 10 years post op. I can tolerate a lot of foods, and much larger qty.

But - raw carrots can still cause foamies. It doesn't matter if I chew them very well, or have it shredded. My pouch reacts to raw baby carrots that way. I can have 1-2 baby carrots at a time. More than that - and I get foamies. Then I had to throw up. Even now. But I have no problem with cooked carrots. Something in raw baby carrots is triggering my pouch on lock down. 10 years - I have been dealing with that for 10 years. And I can have almost any other foods with no problem.

Happy 10 to you

I can't eat raw carrots either. I've forgotten too and up they come.

I cook carrots all the time.

I am glad I am not the only one that has problem with that. But it is sooo weird. I can eat steak and chicken, pork, etc. Even when the meat is grilled and dry - it doesn't bother me when I eat that as long as I chew well. Raw carrots - no go.

I often wonder what is it in a raw carrots that my pouch goes "Nope, nope, nope" - "You shall not pass". (From the Lord of the Rings)

Go figure. I'm good with raw carrots but my no-no food is salmon. Never. Again.
