Too little calories = stall?

Hey everyone !!

I have lost 20 lbs of my regain - I was losing pretty steadily for a while, but for the past couple of weeks have been going up/down within a pound. I have been eating around 700-800 calories/day with minimal complex carbs and appx 90g of protein (a lot of chicken !!)

If I scatter my calories more (lower one day, higher the next, and so on)... could that possibly trick my metabolism into losing again ? Getting REALLY annoyed !!! LoL

The idea that you can go into a stall because of too few calories is pretty much false.

More often than not, it's ACTUALLY the case that you're eating more calories than you think you are.

So much this ^^^^ When we say losing weight will never be as easy as the first 6 months after surgery, we really mean it!

I have nothing but ADMIRATION for people who have lost regain, it's bloody hard work!!

The dirty secret of weight loss is that the more you lose, the LESS you must eat to lose more.

No one wants to hear it, but it's the god's honest truth.

I don't continue to lose weight if I don't adjust lower as I go down. When I was 350 pounds, I could lose weight just cutting out soda or eating less than 2000 calories. I had to change repeatedly to continue losing, and even to maintain.

I have thousands of days logged in MFP, and I weigh/measure and log everything -- thus I am sure of my numbers. I am 5'5" and went from 347 to an average between 138 to 145. I've gone up as high as 152 in maintenance, and I know the exact numbers of consumption.

To maintain at 150 to 160, I have to eat less than 1000 calories. To lose when I am that weight, I must eat less than 900. To maintain at 145 or lower, I have to eat LESS than 950 calories a day and under 35 grams of TOTAL carbs. To lose, I must eat less than 750 calories, and under 30 grams of TOTAL carbs. To lose weight when I am under 135 pounds, I have to eat less than 700 calories a day. I can maintain 128 to 138 eating less than 920 calories. I maintain in the 138 to 145 pound range eating less than 950 calories a day -- which some days appreciably less to make up for the days I go over/come close to that max.

It's never that I am eating too little.

I hope this helps you in reaching your goals.

really hate hearing this because it is hard to sustain 700-900 calories a day to lose and still not have an eating binge attack within a week.

are those numbers with exercise or without any?

It is difficult to sustain, hence why there are so many regain stories. One has to be extremely diligent over the long haul, both in terms of tracking and consumption, but also with complacency. (And it is also a reason why vets try to educate newbies that weight gain will always be a possibility, even with surgery.)

Exercise has not ever mattered for me.

At the height of my exercise routine, I was running 3 to 5K a day on the treadmill, and doing weight training several times a week. While I benefitted health-wise, it did nothing to change the caloric needs or to help weight loss. In fact, losing was more difficult because I was infinitely more hungry, and I had to fight the trap of thinking I could eat just a little more since I was burning calories. Um, NO.

You cannot outrun a bad diet.

Now, I only walk everyday. I always get at least 10,000 steps, and usually walk for 1/2 hour to an hour at a brisk pace (approx. 4 mph). I do this for physical health, not weight management.

My observation and I am thinking of canning my exercise for a while. I am not sure if it is my head or my body telling me that I need more food/fuel when I exercise? or am I subconsciously justifying eating more due to my exercise? Am I alone with this experience/feeling? I am working on my regain at this time and it is not an easy thing. I think I need to step back from the gym and focus entirely on steps and diet. I have lost 3 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks. But it has not been easy.
