Stock up on things you will need after surgery and pack your things including a pillow for ride home and for getting up and walking around (to hold against your incisions). Good luck! Remember to sip and walk!

Topic: RE: So does this mean i cannot swallow pills now? frustrated!

Its amazing that we all had the same surgery and everyone has different rules to follow. My doctor said no pills till 6 weeks out because they might get stuck. Most stool softeners are gel filled. It may be that the pill started to dissolve in your stomach and the medicine inside it has irritated your stomach. I hope you are feeling better soon.

You'll have to google it for the exact recipe. It's an energy/meal replacement that's popular in the primal/paleo/lc eating plans. My body can't handle all the fat so I make it with a tsp coconut oil, stevia, and either a splash of coconut milk or half and half....depending on how closely I'm following Paleo at the time. It's really filling and so yummy! I make my husband's with grass-fed butter, coconut oil, cream, and splenda. You can add cacao for a yummy mocha flavor too.

Well today I start my one week liquid diet. I am so excited for surgery next Monday. But... nervous over this pre-op diet. Have been reading lots of people really struggling with it. Just ready for next Monday to be here.

Thank you my BEAUTIFUL-EST sista Nell .... I am kind of thrilled that he said NO! too ... after I thought about it that is ... at first my stubborn mule spirit was about to react with 'don't you dare tell me what to do with my gown' LOL but I reflected after he said it was OUR special gown ... worn on a very special day and to PLEASE not give or loan that one out .... it really made me feel some kind of special because otherwise it would seem that he does not concern himself with stuff like that ... His sentiments were touching and refreshing so I sat my feisty panaManiac (crazy Panamanian) down and now I KNOW I am truly blessed with a dufus romantic partner for life...

Nothing with aspirin and be careful of any medicine. They can hit a lot harder than before and make you weak or dizzy.

I like the Neti Pot.

Topic: RE: ULCERS

lansoprazole is the generic prevacid and is available over the counter as a lower strength. Carafate needs a prescription. If you have an ulcer that is what you likely will need. The prevacid should help prevent them (hopefully).

Topic: RE: 7 1/2 years Post Roux-en-Y and Needing Feedback from other long-term Post Ops

I will be 6 years out in August.  Yes, it is normal to be able to eat more (otherwise you would be stuck trying to live on just a few ounces of food at a time with no fat stores to rely on!), but I have not noticed a change since about 2 years out.  The diet we need to follow is the same as it was while we were losing (just in somewhat larger portions): limited portions (it is very easy to let portion sizes creep up as time goes by, and just because you physically can eat a certain amount doesn't mean that you need to, or should, eat that much... you still need to do some mental portion control), protein heavy, limited carbs (as few "white" carbs as possible), no drinking with, or right after meals.

I personally am not very active because of bad knees (just had one replaced), but am maintaining my weight by being more diligent about making good food choices.  Exercise makes it MUCH easier to maintain your weight, but it CAN be done without it.  There are several of us here that do.

He is special indeed ... Thank you NDHM .. If you ever read our story you'll see how special he is indeed.  He practically saved my life and in doing so that of my children who he raised as his.

What an awesome and touching story Dania ... your grandma's quilt is forever priceless and I am so glad it is yours .... I am glad I read this this morning after getting home later than expected last night .... this really touched my heart and is such an awesome start to my day ... it reminded me so much about my nana back in Panama ... Keep that quilt for-ever.

"Sometimes little things such as a dress or a quilt that took time, love, and full-on emotion to make really make a difference to not only us but to those around us. :-)"  I totally agree...
