Topic: RE: Is it ppossible to continue a great WLS after the Lap band revised RNY ?
I had lap-band slip with re-vision to RNY February 2012. I have been stalled for 6 months. I don't know if I will lose again. I have let it get me down and now I know I am getting back into some mindless eating and eating out of stress. I am now making a conscious effort to be more careful and excessive a bit more. If you really want it you can do it. Don't fall into the rut I have been in...

Best if luck to you!

Thank you for your post.  I had RNY on Feb 21,2012. I am having the same struggle you are.  The reply's to your post have been so helpful to me.  I have an appointment on Friday with my surgeon and nutritionist. I wish you the best of luck and the strength to keep moving forward.

I have to agree with the others. I think your body is in gas overload due to the natural sugars in the fruit. I did the same thing out about 14days post op. it was so painful, and I had the runs so bad. Sugar Alcoa
Hols in a lot of SF stuff gives me horrible tummy issues too. No more than 6 grams of sugar at a time for me.

How far out are you? I am assuming you are about three weeks out. In time you will feel better. I was feeling the same way for a long time. I am now almost 6 months out and it's much better. I hate how my body reacts to sugar and sugar alcohols...have to be so careful. No more nausea and I feel good when I eat.

I remember for a long time I felt bad most of the time. Did not want to eat because then I would feel worse. Hang in there it does get better.

Topic: RE: Slow weight loss but fast hair loss
Hi Dave,  I have heard that about revision as well.  I do watch my serving sizes because I was so used to having pain for a couple of hours after eating.  I feel so much better in general and it's wonderful to not be vomiting daily.

My soft foods stage included retried beans. I used the fat free version. Enjoy!

Topic: RE: Slow weight loss but fast hair loss
So I am almost 6 months post op I have lost 56 pounds but 14 of those were pre-op.  I am getting at least 80 grams of protein a day, keeping track of my daily intake on fitness pal.  I was a conversion from band to bypass due to slip.  I am eating so much more than I could with my lap-band but it's all healthy food not the slider junk foods I was eating before my RNY.

The hair loss started about three months post op and is still raging.  My hair was thin on top to start with, so now it's really bad.  I am going to look at hair pieces this weekend.  Has anyone else gone this route to deal with hair loss?  My husband is horrified by the idea,  but I think it will really help me feel better about myself.

I had mine when I had my surgery. They will give you a HUGE pad to wear and they are really good about helping after the surgery. Do not wear a tampon as it will be difficult to bend right after surgery. I was worried and embarrassed but got over it when I saw how the nurses made it seem like an everyday thing.

Good luck to you!

Topic: RE: Yogurt help
I stick with Fage 0% plain greek yogurt. I add a packet of splenda and some blueberries and some pumpkin and flax seeds. So yummy.

Any of the flavored...even vanilla no sugar added make me dump.

Good luck!

Topic: RE: Protein ideas??
I eat greek yogurt and 1% whipped cottage cheese by Friendship.  Other than that it's cheese sticks, and light Baybel cheese.

You look awesome. My surgery is just a day after you but you are 20 pounds ahead of me in the loss department. Must admit I'm a bit jealous, but it really motivates me. Congrats on your loss and the size 12! I can't wait to be a 12... That's my goal!

Topic: RE: Can you share a favorite protein ice cream recipe?
My kids bought me an ice-cream machine for mother's day and I have been putting protein shakes in it, but it really was not very good.  Any favorite frozen yogurt, protein ice-cream or sorbet or sherbert recipes?

I don't do well with the sugar free syrupsget horrible gas from sugar and sugar alcohols.

Thanks in advance

Topic: RE: Hair Loss
Losing hair here... I make sure I get my protein in 80-100 grams a day. The loss started at 4months out. Don't know when it will stop. I am very thin on top and hope it does not get much worse.

32pounds in 6 weeks sounds amazing to me. Try to focus more on protein than on calories. You need the protein to help rebuild muscle. Sorry your visit was so unpleasant.

Topic: RE: arghhh...i'm stuck
I read your post and see that you know what to do, it's just a matter of doing it.  I think if you are more conscientious about what you are eating this won't be the end for you.  This is something within your control.  Start taking your supplements because if you are going to have and recover from foot surgery you need to be in shape nutritionally.

I feel like a slow loser when I compare myself to what others have lost.  I am 4 and a half months post op and have lost 40 pounds since surgery.  This is very slow compared to most but I log my intake on my fitness pal and I know when I follow the rules I feel like even though the scale is not moving as quickly as I would like...it is moving and I'm doing the right thing.

Good luck getting back on track.  You can do this.

Topic: RE: Did surgery.
I had lap-band surgery when I was 292 pounds. I did it because of the high blood pressure and diabetes. I have 3 litte kids and did it to be healthy for them. I have been over 200 pounds since I was a teen ager, so I am actually afraid of being thin. I don't know what that is like.

With the lap-band I lost about 90 pounds and then gained about twenty back when they had to empty it due to the band slipping. I made the decision to switch to RNY due to problems I had with the band since they had to remove it due to the slip.

My husband loves very large women...He was fine with me at 220 but now it seems i am too thin in his eyes. He just told me a week ago that he thinks I am too small now. I am not thin by anyone's standards but he liked me better bigger. Strange situation to be in. He's happy I am healthier but he misses my bulk and watching me enjoy eating.

So no more high blood pressure no more diabetes today I bought size 36DD bras and size 14 bathing suits. I can't remember being this size...and I am still losing. I still see myself as I was. People commenting on my weight loss makes me uncomfortable. So I don't feel more confident, I don't feel more attractive. I miss my sweets...especially my ice cream, my hair is falling out by the fistfull and i have horrible gas that is improving, but keeps me from attending some social situations when its really bad...but I am healthier.

Topic: RE: I never thought these words would come out of my mouth
Sorry, no help here, but wanted to add. I can't stand when I try out new recipies to diversify and get un-boared and I don't like the end result.

I mainly stick to chicken breast because no other meats seem to agree with me. I do love my greek yogurt with bluberries, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds and one packet of splenda and my cottage cheese concoction of 1% whipped cottage cheese, some chopped apple, cinnamon, a couple chopped nuts...so yummy and lots of protein. I make for these for lunch most days but I don't stay full as long as if I have grilled chicken breast and some salad.

Hang in there. It will get better.

Topic: RE: Pressure to eat more at family picnic
I dont feel comfortable telling people about my surgery. When i get pressured to eat more or eat something I know will not have a good outcome...I just use the excuse of it will make me feel sick. It usually stops people. I will sometimes say I cant have that much sugar and most people just assume its a diabetes thing and leave it alone.

You handled it well though. COngratulations!
