Topic: RE: I've lost a lot, husband has gained a lot

Thanks for the input everyone...guess my post sounded more serious than I intended.

Our 14th wedding anniversary is coming up and there are NO plans for divorce. I was just wondering if other WLS peeps have seen their partners gain weight. My husband will eventually decide to lose his weight ( I hope!) but I will never comment or tease him about it. He never did that to me, thankfully.

happy New Year!

Topic: RE: Caffeine
I'm now 11 months out and drink 2-3 cups of bold coffee a day.

Since I love coffee, I had to have it starting around 5 weeks out. I took Prevacid every morning until last month and haven't had a problem. I drink a glass of water as I drink each cup to counter dehydration.

It's one of those personal choices you'll need to make based on what's best for you.

Anyone else experiencing this? I'm looking better than I have in 25 years and my husband has gained about 40 lbs recently. I'm raring to go and do things while he's content to sit around and over eat. He also seems really old to me now (58). I'm 53 and feel like a 25 year old again.
There has be a psychological reason for his going in the other direction while I'm being praised for dropping 90 lbs...

I also feel guilty for being turned off by his body since he stuck by me when I was heavy.

Can this marriage be saved? Lol

Topic: RE: Anyone else not have a problem eating sugar?

Thanks so much for the tips!

I have to say that after losing 90 pounds in 9 months (240 to 150) and feeling fantastic about myself wearing the size 10 I haven't seen since high school, sweets are  not  worth going down the path to regaining...

Need to use my calories to add protein, which I've had some trouble with.  My doc has ordered me to now get in 115 grams a day...so NO room for ANY junk at all!  I've started doubling the protein powder in my morning shake to make it 60 grams including the milk.  With half a banana and a few frozen strawberries, it's about 400 calories...doesn't leave much wiggle room.

Keep on keepin on, everyone :)

Topic: RE: Anyone else not have a problem eating sugar?

Turns out I can tolerate sugar...ice cream, candy, cake, oh my!  Thought getting the bypass would save me from my cravings, but sugar doesn't seem to bother my pouch.  I don't tolerate greasy food or large quantities, but I've been raiding my kid's Halloween goodies...and I know it's not good.

Any advice to stay out of the sugar bowl?

Topic: RE: I'm so happy with my RNY!
Congrats!  I've been feeling the exact same way...not quite 6 months out and have dropped from a 20 to a 12.  I'm doing a happy dance every day when discovering  I can fit into things I haven't worn in 25 years!

I laugh in dressing rooms when clothes I expect will be too small are acutally loose.

Fun problem to have...

Topic: RE: Mom, you're not fat any more!
So my clothes are really baggy and I've been making piles to give to charity. My 11 year old son came in and asked what I was doing, and I said I was trying to find something to wear that isn't hanging off me. He said, "Well, Mom...you're old clothes don't fit because you're not fat anymore."
He was so matter of fact about it.

Those words made me so happy!

Glad this post is getting so many great responses! I neglected to mention my husband, who married me when I was on the chubby side after months of fertility drugs, who adored me through my pregnancy carrying twins when my weight shot up to 270, and who never once in the 17 years since our first date, ever made a negative comment about my weight. He has been so supportive of my WLS journey and has told me how proud he is of me for going through all of this to regain my health.
Yes, there are a lot of shallow people out there, but I'm going to enjoy the small acts of kindness and make sure I make the effort to lift someone else's spirits, too.

After years of being invisible and ignored, I'm having mixed feelings about men holding doors for me, making eye contact, and giving me admiring glances. Yes, of course it feels good...who doesn't like a little attention? What bothers me is that these same men probably wouldn't have been so nice to me just 4 months ago.
I've lost over 50 pounds and that is apparently the admission price for the Kindness of Strange Men ride.
It's just something I've noticed lately.
I am wearing nicer clothes, using more makeup and jewelry, and just got acrylic nails, so I'm likely giving off a different vibe. Happier, too.  Guess it all goes hand in hand.

Topic: RE: Sizes

I was a size 20 almost 4 months ago and am now a 14...SW 234 now 179.

My top has shrunken faster than my bottom, and my bras are baggy, so I'm dragging out my old ones.

Got some pretty good arm waddle I'm working on...will be a while before I go sleeveless in public!

Topic: RE: Anyone have an ulcer?
Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out if I have an ulcer or dumping...

I took my Prevacid this morning as per usual and waited half an hour.  I then drank my Isotonic vitamins and immediately felt a pain in my pouch.

I waited about an hour and then ate about 3/4 a cup of scrambled eggs with diced ham and a half piece of whole wheat toast with light butter.

At nearly 4 months out, this sounds like a reasonable meal to me.  But soon after, I felt nauseous and uncomfortable.  Lasted about 20 minutes.

Does this sound like an ulcer?

Going to doc soon for a scheduled visit...just wondering if anyone else has a similar story.

Topic: RE: CPAP

I was hoping I wouldn't need mine anymore...especially since I don't use my cpap like I'm supposed to because it makes me feel like I'm drowning in air.  However...I still wake up gasping with the familiar headache on the top of my head, and know that I need to do something.

I've lost 50 pounds since Feb, but since the apnea is still a problem, I'm going back in for a Bi-pap sleep study.  Have you heard of this machine?  It's like a cpap, but you can adjust the air pressure when you exhale.  That's what has bothered me about the cpap...I don't like having to exhale with air pushing against me.

I'll post about the Bi-pap after I give it a try for a while.  When I did my first sleep study, I woke up feeling so good because of all that good oxygen all night.  They gave me a valium or something that night to relax me, but that's not practical at home...don't want to get hooked on those things!

Good luck with your surgery...and hope it helps your apnea.  I might be one of the people who've had it my whole life but didn't know it until I gained weight and had the sleep test.

Topic: RE: Relying on shakes too much?

Thanks everybody!

Insteaf of a shake this morning, I had cottage cheese and crackers for breakfast!  Still looking forward to a shake for lunch, though, made with 1% milk and a whole banana.

Soft foods seem to be best for me right now, so I just need to be creative to get the protein in.

Topic: RE: Relying on shakes too much?

Hey everyone...

I've been having some trouble enjoying regular food...just feel kind of full and uncomfortable, not so much dumping, just stuffed.

Lately, I have only shakes for breakfast and lunch, along with water and vitamins, and then have something like refried beans w/ cheddar for dinner.

Is this a bad idea?  Should I make myself eat more regular food?

Thanks in advance...

Best wishes for a smooth experience!

Remember...when you're wondering if you did the right thing (which I think everyone does during that first week), it DOES get better soon.  The first few weeks are the hardest...keep telling yourself that you will be feeling so happy in a few months as the pounds are melting off!

Topic: RE: Day 8 of liquids

You have a great attitude!

The liquid diet seems like punishment prior to surgery, but it's such an important part of the process since it shrinks your liver, enabling the surgeon to doing his/her job well because they're able to see what they're working with in there.

My surgeon told me it's very difficult to operate around an enlarged liver, making the surgery take longer and increasing the chance for something to go wrong.

So sip away, know that you're doing the right thing and getting closer to feeling great!
