Topic: RE: hair loss at 3 to 4 months, does it come back??????
Thanks Alison, my hair is pretty thick still but I have lost lots. I can just notice a minor loss on the hair line. If I create a fine bang you can't see anything. I will try the volume shampoo might help, hope not too much more falls out in the next few months. Sounds like it will be over by then.
I am so happy I started with thick thick hair.

I wonder if Rogaine helped, if it did you would think everyone would have it prescribed.
Thanks for the positive words.
Topic: RE: hair loss at 3 to 4 months, does it come back??????
 Hi Everyone,
so I am now 4 months out and 50 lbs down ( from a 200lb /5ft 2' start ).
I had thick, thick shoulder length hair. I have been lossing lots for a month now and my dietican tells me I am getting enough protein but not enough calories ( max 800 a day ). Just never hungry but eating as much as I can.
I have read some old posts and it appears at about 6-8 months the hair loss stops- or falls out at a normal rate.
My question does it grow back in to what it was before or not? Does it grow back in slowly starting at 6-8 months out?
I know it can be different in everyone but interested to see different peoples experiences. I think mine isnt that noticable because I have fair hair and it doesnt contrast against the scalp color.
Like many of you, my hair was one of my best assets so hope I dont lose to much

Topic: RE: Am I imagining this? - feel better after protein shake
i am eating food high in protein ( although meat is still had to digest - the 'alien baby" fights back ) but I can eat only very small amounts. Cheese one slice is it for a meal etc tec.
so you do feel awful without the protein, so maybe this isnt my imagination.
Topic: RE: will the skin shrink back a bit with time
It's 6 weeks and i am hoping that my skin will shrink a bit this time,  6 weeks and a 30 lb loss is a lot so hoping with time the skin will catch up. At 50 yrs old might not. Lost lots off my face and it doesnt look like there is excess skin, will legs and arms skin shrink a bit also with time?
or an I just dreaming?
anyone had arm and leg skin removed? how much and painful?
Topic: RE: Am I imagining this? - feel better after protein shake

6 weeks  post surgery, has a horrible 4 weeks and the last 2 weeks are much better.
Taste buds refuse to tolerate the presurgery ensures etc, hate the sweet tastes.
FINALLY found and and can tolerate a unflavoured protein powder and finally starting to get some real protein down

I feel better and feel more energenic within 30 mins of drinking a homemade protein shake, is this my imagination ( psychosomatic ) or has anyone else experienced this?

I know I am still a bit dehyrated and without the shake ( 18gm protein) maybe eating 10 gms of protein a day ( food sourced ).
Topic: RE: 6 weeks out and coffee tastes undesirable - what's with that?
Interesting, yep the smell I used to love now not revolted but lots of smells bother me now.
3 months hey okay may have to do diet coke to get the caffine. I can drink that although now the aspartane tastes too sweet, but going to need that wake up and go. Dare I try one of those energy drinks to get myself going ( mentally ) in the morning? been a pretty sedenitary and rough 6 weeks. Hope I have th energy to make it through 8 works behind a desk and running around putting out fires.
Topic: RE: weight dropped 30lbs at 4 weeks now holding, is that normal?
Dropped 20lbs in first 2 weeks post surgery then to 30 lbs at 4 weeks, now at 6 weeks holding at 30lbs.
So hard to eat anything, never hungry and wait for the 'alien baby" to decide if they will like it :)
Most of the time they grumble.

is there a mornal stall at 4-6 weeks, back to work next week so worried about eating in front of people. Havent told them about surgery.

is there normal weight stalls? and when are they?
Topic: RE: Gum chewing in recovery?
I'm 6 weeks out and just recently heard the ' dont chew gum encase you swallow it" story.
I chewed gum ( normally I never do - mum told me a lady looks like a cow chewing in the field :) )
BUT my mouth felt awful, especially as dehydrated as we get post surgery. There is a rumor pepermint helps nausea ( and I had lots of that),. The gum helped me feel human, improved my breath, got rid of the 'slimies" or that saliva and foam that seems to come from the stomach in early days.
I thought it helped a lot. One can be careful not to swallow, we arent idiots right ? :)

Topic: RE: 6 weeks out and coffee tastes undesirable - what's with that?
I have loved coffee forever and I have tried it a few times and dont like the taste. it is a bit more bareable iced with a little milk but what is with that? I will need it to stay awake at work next week.
Did anyone elses tastes change so much they cant do coffee anymore? not crazy about any hot drink right now, is it just  the healing phase still?

Topic: RE: 5 weeks and can't stop burping- why?
great, be sure to reply to me if he has any ideas
Thanks Larry
Topic: RE: 5 weeks and can't stop burping- why?
Starting to feel human again after a horrible first month.
If I need to eat , after I eat I start burping. Burping can go on for 15-20 mins none stop. I am not swallowing a lot of air or drinking high carbonated drinks.
Why am I burping so much and how do I stop it.
Can't go back to work next week trying to find a quiet spot to burp to myself.
Burps are odorless and tasteless.
Anyone else get this, will it go away?
Topic: RE: How abou****ermelon?
I tried it at 2 weeks, didn't sit well. i am at 4.5 weeks and have had netarine and a plum recently. I am sure you could manage it at 4 weeks. Just dont eat too much, now I have a modest piece of anything and wait for 15 mins before I eat more. The dumping experience is no fun.
Topic: RE: Currently hating my decision...
thanks Marty, this forum has been a great source of support and an ability to vent.
Love your statement".........just look at all the people wanting for you on the loser's bench"

going to a party on saturday, ( all being well) havent told these people about the surgery. i am already thinking of how I pretend to eat, so as not to look like I cant eat.
The drinking will be easier.

Topic: RE: Currently hating my decision...
been there done that, drugs didnt help, they had no solutions, think I am out of the woods now but it was 3+ weeks of hell
Topic: RE: 1 month post op PICS
LOL, I am also at 4 weeks and down 25- 28 lbs, my lovely husband says I have lost weight in my face - just what I want to hear.
I was sooooooo sick after the surgery I would take the 25 lbs back if I wasnt so sick for the first 3 + weeks.
Havnnt taken any post surgery photos yet.
You can really see it in your photos , so encouraging hey! keep up the good work, dont you want to eat more than a few teaspoons though? ;(
Topic: RE: Currently hating my decision...
 Hey this was me!!!!!
i had  my surgery May 15 with a redo on May 16th. I was sooooo sick just like you sooo sick, nothing worked zofran, maxiran etc, nothing. I wanted my life back. Went back in to ER with complication in for another 3 days. Was sooooo dehydrated, nothing worked, couldnt eat, wanted to die.
sound familiar??? lost 25 lbs in the first 2 weeks.
Surgeon said some get sick but it will go. Plan to go back to work at 3 weeks - plan shot.
It's now 4 weeks. so for me it went nauseated everyday for 2 weeks, then 2 good days, then 3 bad, then another two good, day is the 4th good day. I am praying that this trend stays.
Now down 30 lbs.
I think I understand what is now making me nauseous, I tried to eat something hard ( chewed it to death- 1 strip of ginger beef) - sick. It is interesting because the surgeon just told me your stomach is slow to tell you you are full or something was not appropriate yet. He said sometimes it will be uncomfortable or you may start feeling sick if you eat too much (that might mean a teaspoon too much). Well this explains why after a good day, I ate and was sick again in an hour.

One person on  the forum called this 'buyers remorse" I thought that was amusing.
as for drinking I lived on tiny sips of half flat icy ginger ale and now on perrier. I am still not hydrated properly but getting there.
I feel for you the nausea was the worst I have every had and nothing helped. Some idiot on the forum had all the answers, but I think time will resolve this, stay strong. The time you are at 14 days and on soft food it will be easier. i am living on goat cheese on ritz, only 2 every 3 hours, soggy cheerios and baked beans.
good luck hang in there!!!!!!
Topic: RE: 3.5 weeks out SICK of feeling nauseous HELP
3.5 Weeks out, been a rough ride. Nauseous 60 % of days now, hard to eat. surgeon doesnt know what is causing nausea, wan to go back to work at 3 weeks, now I have no idea how long this will last. Nausea bad, not mild. Whwn not nauseous still very weak.
Anyone get this? lower part of gut sore with this nausea. Eating the appropriate stuff ( when I can eat and drink), not vomiting food sometimes gastric foam only. Cant get the taste out of my mouth.
God I hope this isnt permenent.
Anyone have this after their surgery? words of wisdom?
Topic: RE: 15 days out and craving normality
Had a rough  15 days horrible nausea, throw clots admitted for another 4 days etc. etc.
Been on back for 15 days due to nausea, forced down tiny amounts of yoguart, skimmed milk,  laughing cow cheese, soup, unfortunately lost 20 lbs already.
Sick of yoguart etc, want a tiny strip of donair meat ( on solid food yesterday ), dumped on sugary stuff - ice cream.
Hate hot cereal, scrambled eggs, really dont want tuna yet, just want normal food even a tiny amount.
How long before the pouch stretches to a 1/2-1 cup? 2 teaspoons is so little food to take in, losing too fast ( especially with constant nausea.
suggestions?
Topic: RE: ? Yom Kippur fast
Where I live the Yom Kippur fast is 26-27 hours long.
I was thinking of doing a solid only fast and drinking fluids as a post RNY compromise.
Just thinking about this now but I am only 10 days post surgery today.
Rabbi will be more than sympathetic I am sure.
Advise for anyone who has gone through this yearly challenge????
Topic: RE: Home for hospital after RNY
Terrible nausea stops me eating anything ( 90% of the time ) so yes there are reasons for not following the dieticians guidline, horrible nausea is not an excuse.
Topic: RE: Home for hospital after RNY
Hi Everyone, thanks so much for the support!!!!!!!!!!

Been a rough 9 days but getting some repreives now where I don't have nausea.
Been impossible to eat or drink much with the nausea, during the few mild nausea hours want real food like 5 pieces of penne.
So sick of yoghart, not interested in anything sweet ( apple sauce etc) makes gag.
Weight is falling off, probably most of it is water and couldn't/can't stomach much food
13 lbs in 9 days - toooo fast.
If at 9 days you can tolerate soft solids ( penne ) can start adding them carefully???

Had 2 sips of a McD. fruit smoothie yesterday, tasted and felt great ( needed calories, isnt that a change in thinking hey?) Experienced dumping for the first time.
Wow not 5 mins later had terrible left sided abdo pain for 30-45 mins. Guess it was sweeter than it tasted. Wow hard introduction to dumping.
Incisions healing beautifully.
So sick of TV ( and my own company), anyone else get nausea for so long?

Topic: RE: so excited RNY next Tuesday - any words of wisdom?
Thanks, hey what % of people loose hair? not everone does right? I know it's stress related as much as diet related (protein).
Sounds like a very high percentage

Topic: RE: so excited RNY next Tuesday - any words of wisdom?
Just  got the call, surgery next Tuesday. Can't weight ( ha ha - catch the pun?)

Cant wait - 3 nights in hospital, any words of wisdom?

Hoping 3 weeks should be enough time off.
