Topic: RE: I still dump!
I still dump 7 months out...I've come to the conclusion there will always be some stuff that I will just not be able to tolerate. I accept that as part of my life change.

Topic: RE: Upping my Calories
So I had my 2 month post op appointment yesterday with my surgeon and he said I'm not eating enough.

Right now I'm consuming about 600 calories per day. He said at this point I should be up to about 1000 and no less.

So can someone give me good ideas for adding to my calorie intake?

Right now I can't really tolerate chicken due to an ulcer that is causing bleeding, but tuna and eggs, etc seem to stay down fine.

Thanks.

Topic: RE: 3 weeks today and no weight lose in almost 5 days
I just had my period start last week and I was 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery. My weight loss literally slowed to 0.2 lbs in 3 days, then the day after I started my period I dropped 2 lbs overnight. Don't worry about it and take it easy...the tool will work if you do everything right.

Topic: RE: did you feel like eating after surgery?
Manisha - I didn't feel like eating for a good week after I had surgery. The gassy and bloated feeling are from the surgery, but over time will go away. Just keep walking walking walking...it really does help a ton. I really don't feel like eating even now 2 1/2 weeks Post Op, but I set my watch to go off at normal breakfast lunch and dinner times to remind me to eat and then I have my protein shakes in between with water.

Topic: RE: Back to work after surgery?
I am 2 weeks and one day post op. I returned to work 6 days after surgery. My own personal choice, but I was so bored at home. I was extremely tired and only did half days the first week back, but now I'm 4 days into my 2nd week at work and I feel fine throughout the day, just really tired once I get home. I think for everyone it's different, trust your body and do what it's telling you it needs.

Topic: RE: I just might...
I'm waiting to get under 300 lbs and then I'm going to go try out some bikes to see if any will work. Most bicycle's are not made for people over 300 lbs....there are some out there, but they are outrageously expensive.

That is fantastic. I can't wait til I get to a low enough weight that I can start riding a bike around town. Haven't been able to find one that is comfortable or that can hold my weight at 360+ lbs.

Topic: RE: 2 weeks post op w/ lightheadedness
I had the same thing when I was getting ready to discharge from the hospital and it was my blood pressure shooting up...it was 170/84!

The doctor told me I was doing too much walking too quickly. So I have backed off and walk slower and not as far now until my weight comes down and my blood pressure is more stable.

Topic: RE: Splenda Too Sweet?
Hi all...

So I'm one week post op today and my surgeon told me to try chamomile tea for the gas (it's supposed to be a natural way to combat it). I put only 1 packet of splenda in to give it a little sweetness, but it's just way too sweet.

Did anyone else experience this? What's a good alternative?

Topic: RE: gall stones
I had mine out with my RNY a week ago today. My gallbladder was extremely inflammed so they had to make a 4 in*****ision in the middle of my tummy to get it out, but other than that I didn't even notice it with everything else happening with the RNY. Good luck.

Topic: RE: Post-Op Recovery Time
As of today I am one week post op and I went back to work yesterday.

I'm tired and I am taking it easy. I mostly sit at a desk all day and input paperwork, but I'm surviving. I didn't do anything special before or after surgery. I just rested as much as I could. I also had complications from surgery and had to stay in the hospital for 3 days as opposed to the 1 day original told to me.

Topic: RE: So discouraged
I would suggest finding a bariatric surgeon that also does general surgery. My surgeon does both and if I ever needed a hernia repaired he would be able to do it as well.

I hope you get some relief soon.

Topic: RE: Burping.
Its not so much the burping i am concerned with its the pain.

Topic: RE: Tomorrow is the big day
I totally agree with everyone. I had some minor complications...too much scar tissue, etc, but other than that I feel great for being 4 days out and all I remember was going into the OR and then waking up in recovery. You'll do great and we'll all save you seat on the loser's bench!

Topic: RE: Burping.
Since I had surgery last Wednesday I feel like I have this need to burp, but because it hurts so much I stop the burp and then there is the intense pain for a few seconds and then goes away. Until the next time the burp feels like it needs to come up.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does it eventually go away?

Topic: RE: Surgery is DONE! Some complications, but still a success
The surgeon said I was the toughest case he has ever had, but it was still a success. Lots of scar tissue from a surgery from when I was 2 years old, plus the gallbladder was really inflammed. i had to stay 3 nights in the hospita, but I'm finally home.

Topic: RE: Today is the Day!!
My surgery day has finally arrived. Last night I had a dream that my surgery didn't happen because they ran out of time. This morning I woke up and immediately started crying (not sure what is going on with me).

However I'm up, showered, getting my things together and just going to wait on my ride to the hospital.

Oh and I'm wearing my lounging comfy pink pants and oversized t-shirt to the hospital...lol

Topic: RE: Catheter
Thanks everyone for the posts! I guess I will just wait and ask the surgeon on the day of surgery if they will do it or not.

Topic: RE: Catheter
Hey all...so surgery is in 3 days and now all these questions are coming to mind that I forgot to ask at the hospital.

So I'll ask you guys...did any of you have a catheter??

I think I'm more afraid of the catheter than the actual surgery! LOL

Topic: RE: waiting for approval
Lisa - my surgery is scheduled in 12 days. July 11th. I'm having RNY. I'm a little worried, but excited all in the same. I started my process on May 17th with my consultation, got all my pre-op, including psych eval done within 1 week of my consultation and then everything was submitted to my insurance the day after Memorial Day. I got my approval for insurance on June 4th and surgery is scheduled for July 11th. All in all less than 2 months from start to surgery! I know my situation is rare and I'm very lucky it went so quickly and smoothly. I hope yours continues to go quickly and smoothly. I know about wanting to get to the other side....now that I'm almost there the time is flying by.

Topic: RE: How do you handle
Unfortunately my Grandmother did the same thing to me. I told her if it was that easy as dieting (which I've done every diet known to man) and exercising I would never have gotten to the weight I am now. I'm not doing this for her or anyone else, it's for me and I have decided if they can't support me in my decision that is their problem. Good luck!

Topic: RE: waiting for approval
Not anymore, but I'm sure the majority of us have been in your shoes at one point through this process. Just try to stay busy and the time will fly by. From the time I saw the doctor til approval was 2 1/2 weeks.

Topic: RE: Two years post-op -- some observations
Well said! I have had so many people comment on my choice to have gastric bypass surgery and the most common comment is "You can still gain all that weight back." I always tell them, yes that's true if you are not willing and ready to make a permanent change in your eating and exercise habits.

I'm ready and can't wait to get on the losers bench!
