Topic: RE: Swimming after surgery

I have no idea if you will have staples or not with the DaVinci, but I do know that the recovery time (at least for my father-in-laws prostrate cancer op using a DaVinci) is much shorter. I had staples with my laparoscopic surgery, and six incisions, but the staples were removed before I left the hospital and I was taped up at that time.

I too was told 6 weeks to swim... and it's been 7... the pool is finally warm and guess where I'll be this weekend? I can't wait!!! However, I do need to clean it first... but that's a small price to pay for finally being able to get in it.

Topic: RE: Is it wrong to be so unsure

I too struggled with the decision to have surgery, for two years... in fact backed out two years ago after insurance approval. What an idiot I think I was now that I'm 7 weeks post-op. I was scared of going under anthesia... I don't wake up well from it... takes me forever to wake up in fact... well, not quite "forever" but it sure seems like it.

As long as you are comfortable with your doctor and his/her team then you should do fine. It's a wonderful "tool" to have this new little pouch that we are all sporting now. I'm finding that as long as I read my "manual" that Dr. Wittgrove provided, call him (or his nurses) with my questions... that there really have been no problems to encounter. I'm looking forward to loosing all of this dang excess weight and entering into maintenance for the rest of my life! What a gift... really... that's how I look at this now... it's a gift to myself to be able to really live.

I hope that you will find be able to come to the decision that I hear in your post you really want to come too... it's been (thus far) a really rather wonderful journey (for me at least) and I would encourage anyone thinking of surgery to take that first step.

Topic: RE: 1 Day Out

7 weeks out here... and I agree... walk, walk, and then walk some more! It helps everything even if it hurts like crazy to get and out of bed! Congratulations... this is an incredible journey to take, but one that I'm really enjoying thus far!

Topic: RE: Syntrex Nectar

I have been drinking Nectar since my surgery (Twisted Cherry & Cappuccino)... but I splurged and went to Nectar Sweets after 2 weeks... I love, love, LOVE their Chocolate Truffle (hot chocolate breakfast every morning) and their Strawberry Truffle, which I add water, Greek yogurt and a half of a banana too and then blend with ice cubes... makes for a lovely frosty strawberry "shake" on the hot days we've been having lately.

Enjoy!

Topic: RE: POLL: Tell me something good!

As a "newbie" (relatively speaking) and as someone who is going into surgery this Monday... thank you all for sharing your "good things". I am so looking forward to joining you in listing good things... and one that I hope will happen first... oh how I hope this will happen soon... is that my knees quit hurting! I'm so very, very tired of being in pain... the rest I can deal with... the pain of being obese is unbelievably intense lately and I can't wait to be to a point where it doesn't hurt to move.

I have no regrets to my decision and to hear all of your affirmations today just makes me all that more excited to "get this show on the road"!

Topic: RE: A funny WOW!

Thank you for the giggle this morning, I remember, a few years ago while I was "yoyo'ing" and had lost a lot of weight (yes, only to regain it plus more), anways, I recall feeling my hipbone! In fact, it startled me so much that I even shared my finding with my husband... and then we both laughed! I can't wait to find that hipbone again!

Topic: RE: Some basic info I would like to share for newbies (or those looking for some product info).

Thank you!  I've done the tortilla chips before and they are wonderful, even my husband likes them. I'm going to try the PowerCrunch bars as soon as I'm cleared by my doctor to have something like that (still waiting for surgery), but I'm adding them to my list of foods to try. I'm not sure I've ever seen the 4EverFit, but I'll add it to the list as well and look for it, I love CranRazz anything, so that will be the first flavor I try!

Topic: RE: TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD... PLEEEEASE!

I want to thank everyone who posted something positive on here... as that's what I sincerly hoped I'd find when I noticed that there were so many replies. I almost decided to leave OH because of the initial posting... I'm down to 11 days until surgery... I'm nervous enough without having to read about deaths, or about horribly wrong outcomes from surgery!

I'm sorry, but I'm just a bit skittish right now and seeing this post first thing this morning was too much - at least you could have put more information into your dire post so we, who are still yet to have surgery, don't have to wonder about the specifics.

When I read something like this, I just have to keep reminding myself that my doctor is awesome, that he has an incredible amount of patients who have been extremely successful and that I trust him.

Topic: RE: What made you decide?

I originally wanted a lap band, but for many reasons (among them a hiatal hernia) I decided instead to do the RNY. I'm very happy with my decision and am anxiously awaiting surgery now. One of my personal reasons for deciding against the lap band was the fills... to me that just seemed to be too much intrusion into my life. I'd rather have the finality of the RNY and not have to deal with filling or unfilling a restriction band on my stomach. I like to travel and felt that all of that might put a damper on my ability to pick up and go whenever we wanted to.

Topic: RE: I Couldn't Believe It Was Done!!!

I am so happy to hear your good news and I hope that the rest of your journey goes as well or better than it has the last two days! Although I'm still unsure of how it will be for me, it's nice to hear about someone who did so well during her hospital time.

Topic: RE: Interview eating

First off, congratulations on a good interview, and I hope that it works out for you.

I was very interested to read how you handled eating out. My husband and I eat out quite a bit (luncheons and dinners) with different entities within our business and I've been wondering how I'd handle the various menus I'd find at different venues. Thank you for your thoughts on this and showing that it can be done successfully.

Topic: Brrrrrr!!!!!!

It's cold today, at least it feels cold. Only 57° and since we were in the 80's a few days ago... I'm cold.

My question to you all is... especially to you who have had your surgery... when you are cold, do you tend to eat more, or think of food more? I always have... "cold" equals "find food and thus warmth" to me... so I'm wondering now... will that go away?   I hope so! But I have a feeling it's another bad habit I'll be breaking (starting today).

It's amazing how much my mind has been questioning my thoughts, revising my thinking and re-structuring my eating while waiting for my surgery date to get here.

Topic: RE: care after you get home

My case is going to be a bit different because I have to stay close to the doctor's office for a week (not that he has a history of problems, but just in case because I live 2 long freeway hours away from his office). So... my DH is taking a bit of a break and staying with me at the hotel for the first couple of days (one of which will be our 15th anniversary!) Other than that I really don't think I will need him for anything other than company ~ which I really like. The thing that I have to remember (and which is going to be very hard) is that I'm not supposed to lift anything heavier than my food for a few weeks. So, yes, he'll need to be around to haul laundry once I'm home. He's a farmer - goes through 2 to 3 pair of jeans a day, so I have a LOT of laundry always waiting to be done.

Topic: RE: CLOTHING ADDICTION SINCE RNY...Where do you shop?

I already have an obsession with clothes, so I know I'm going to be in, oh, so much trouble! I have a bunch of clothes that I've outgrown and am anxiously waiting to shrink back into them. The "in-take" guy at the Salvation Army, the last time I was there dropping stuff off, mentioned that it had been awhile since he'd seen me... it was all I could do to not say... just give me six months or so... I'll be here a LOT dropping stuff off!

There is a place in Palm Springs (about an hour from where I live) called (I believe) 2nd Time Around - I plan on going there often to shop while I'm losing and afterwards too. They have some fantastic deals on Coldwater Creek, Chico and etc...

I hate to wish away a year, but I'm really looking forward to being able to look back as you have done and see what I have accomplished. It must feel wonderful to wear a size 8, I can't remember the last time I was able to wear that size... maybe never.

Topic: RE: FINALLLYYYYYYY I GOT A DATE :)) Any Advices???????

Congratulations on getting a date... since I am in the process of waiting for my surgery (scheduled for the 12th of April) all I can say is what's working for me. Stay positive, read a lot and ask questions - my doctors office (thankfully) is always ready to answer even my most silliest questions... and of course, there is always this wonderful site to come to as well. :)

LOL, I wish being tan meant losing weight... I'd already be skinny! ;-)

Enjoy your shopping, I can't wait to be wanting to buy new clothes but also knowing that I should really wait a bit to do so. What a really good feeling that must be! :)

You have done so well, and I'm so humbled by your posting your pictures - I don't know that I could share that, but I so appreciate that you can and did. I'm about the same size you were when you started, and I'm just amazed at how much of a difference there is in your photos. Thank you for providing a visual.

Wishing you the best as you continue forward in this journey. :)

Topic: RE: Be a Tortoise...

Thank you for sharing your chart. My surgery is set for the 12th of April, and it helps to see a realistic view of what one can hope to lose. I know we all want it to come off NOW... but as someone said, it took a LONG time to gain it all (sometimes gain it more than once) so it's to be expected that it take some time to take it off... but this time, if we follow the rules, we have a much, much better chance of keeping it off.

BTW - your smile is so beautiful... I'm sure that you are told that a lot, but  I wanted to mention it and tell you that when I see your smile I can't help but smile too. Thank you. :)
