Topic: RE: For those that need a vitamin schedule
Kelly,
I really like these schedules but I would have to alter it a little since I take Synthroid at night. Could I do the following schedule and still get everything in without interfering with absorption?

Breakfast: multi, calcium, B12, D3
Lunch: calcium
Snack: calcium
Dinner: multi, iron, C
Bedtime: Synthroid

Thank you for your help and words of wisdom.

Lillian

Topic: RE: Iron question
Thanks for the quick reply Kelly.
My ferritin is 5, iron is 20 and iron saturation is 24.4. What is TIBC? Is that an important number?

Topic: RE: Iron question
I recently had some lab work done and my doctor noticed my iron levels were VERY low. She told me to buy an OTC iron supplement but didn't know what kind of iron I should get since she's not my gastric bypass surgeon so I'm turning to the experts on here. Is there a difference in types of iron? What works best? I really want to get these levels up so I have energy and feel better.

Topic: RE: Breast Question - For Ladies Only, Please
I see we are about the same age. I am 41. I don't want the breasts of a 20 year old either but I would like them to be filled out. Even if I found the perfect bra, I can't wear it 24/7. I would have to take it off eventually and still feel unattractive. I hate underwire bras so that makes life a little more difficult. I had a measurement done at JC Penney. The girl said my cup size was a B so I bought a sports bra in the size she said. It did not fit. It didnt not fit i had fat hanging everywhere and felt like i was suffocating. I generally wear a C size and then just add a little padding. I was a size D before surgery. I know I sound pretty whiny because some people shrink down to an A but for me it's not so much the shrinkage that I have issues with. It's the way they just hang there and almost fall out of my bra when I bend over (I've learned to bend at the knees to pick something up from the floor!). My next method of attack is to work with weights to see if I can strengthen those pectoral muscles and see if that helps. I hope so. If not, I will just have another body image obstacle to overcome.

Topic: RE: Breast Question - For Ladies Only, Please
I can certainly relate to how you feel. I always knew I would lose some of the girls but I had hoped it wouldn't be bad. Well, I feel like I have the breasts of an old lady cause they just hang there. My husband loves them the same as ever but I feel pretty unattractive. I didn't think it would bother me as much as it does. I don't think I would ever get implants though. I just have to put it into the right perspective and remind myself that it's better than being obese like before the surgery. It's just that some days when I'm stuffing them into a bra, it's hard to put it into that perspective.

Topic: RE: NSV: hubby's mistake
My husband came home from work today and went upstairs to change into comfy, lay around the house clothes. He came back downstairs and informed me he tried to put on some sweatpants but he couldn't get them pulled up! He looked at the tag and realized they were my pants! LOL I've always worn a larger size than him so this was a GREAT NSV that I just had to share with everyone!

Topic: RE: photo comparison question
I use Microsoft PowerPoint. I just insert the pictures, position and size them so they are side by side and the same size, then right click and save as a jpeg picture. Then I can share how far I've come. I'm sure there are other ways but that's what I do. Good luck.

Topic: RE: 10mos out and only down 92lbs!!
Congratulations on having your husband home! Getting off of my schedule always throws off my weight loss. I am 8 months post op and have lost a little over 90 lbs also. I sat at a stall for what seemed like a month but I am not as dedicated to exercise as you are. I definitely need to get more motivated to work out but I've heard that we will be more successful if we change up the type of workouts we do. I think you have nothing to be ashamed of. Ninety-two pounds is a GREAT accomplishment! Just keep going and I'm sure you will continue to see positive results.

Topic: RE: Selenium question
Good to know. I know what some of the things on the report are but some I don't know. I'm not really worried though because all of my numbers, except for two, are right in the middle of the reference range. I will check out what the ones that are close to the high end are and see what I can do to bring them down a bit. Thank you again. You really are a valuable member of this community.

Topic: RE: Selenium question
Thank you for your input. I have looked at my labs and don't see Selenium listed (unless it has letters that don't go with it all! LOL). I have checked my multivitamin and know its not included. I have also done some research on it and believe it has many benefits, especially where my thyroid is concerned. I would rather be proactive and take it now than to wait until my next labs, which are months away, tell me I have a deficiency.

Topic: RE: Selenium question
Poet Kelly pointed out that my multivitamin doesn't contain Selenium so I bought some yesterday. Is there a specific time of day I should take it? Can I take it with my calcium?
Thank you for your help

An, I see. I was not find of the taste of the Silvers.

Kelly, what role does selenium play? Why is it necessary?

Topic: RE: Do I have to only use chewable vitamins?
I was taking the Centrum Silver until I noticed they don't have iron so I switched to Centrum chewables. They are orange flavored but they are quite powdery.

Topic: RE: Anybody else have Hypothyroidisim?
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 11 years ago. I had RNY May 2011. I was taking 112 mcg of levothyroxine 5 days a week and then 125 mcg 2 days a week. I wondered if the weightloss would have any effect on it. Several people told me that it didn't change theirs at all and I was hoping I would be one of those people. As it turns out, I have had to change my prescription since surgery. I am now taking 125 mcg every night. My levels went up and my doctor put me on the higher dose and told me to crush the pill and mix with water. I can't stand crushing my meds so I just chew it 2 times when I take it. Thank goodness it doesn't really have a taste. My doctor thought maybe my body wasn't absorbing it correctly. I had my bloodwork rechecked and my new doctor said my levels are much lower, in fact she's worried they might be too low so I am watching myself carefully to make sure I'm not going hyperthyroid. We will check my levels every 3 months for the next year to make sure they are good.
I hope your levels stay in the "normal" range.
Good luck

It took awhile for TriCare to approve me also. And remember we just had some major holidays so I'm sure people took time off of work. Just continue to be patient.

Topic: RE: tailbone pain
I am 8 months out and have the same tailbone pain. It gets REALLY bad sometimes. It's comforting to know that it gets better. I find I have to shift a lot, especially when I'm at work where I'm at a desk all day. I have found that if I sit forward and with perfect posture, it takes the pressure off of it. I'm starting to do exercises that will build up my quad and glute muscles. I hope that if i build up the muscles, it will cushion the tailbone a little more. Hopefully the pain diminishes soon.

Topic: RE: hair color?????
Hi! I am 7 months post op and a hair stylist. I have colored my hair throughout the whole process as my grey hairs make me chemically dependent (LOL)! I did lose hair. I know people who said they haven't lost any hair but the majority of the people I know have lost some. I don't believe I lost hair because I colored it and I will tell you why. Hair falls out from the root which is located under the scalp. When you color your hair, the color stops at the scalp and never goes to the root so to color the hair should be fine. Please note I said to color the hair. Bleaching the hair which is done when going very light or adding highlights would add extra stress to the hair shaft. Bleach breaks down the color molecules on the hair. Combining the bleach with the after effects of anesthesia, hormone changes, diet changes, vitamin changes and the challenge of staying hydrated would create, in my opinion, extra stress that could cause the hair to break. So, in my opinion, if you plan to stay at your natural color or darker, you should be fine.
Hope I helped.

Topic: RE: Cut or not to cut.....that is my question
LOL! No, I have not left one in my mouth too long. I don't even want to think about that wonderful flavor!

I don't have problems swallowing them. I just wondered if they would dissolve and work better if they were smaller.

Thanks for the input. I may have to drop one in a small bit of water just to see what happens and how long it takes to dissolve.

Topic: RE: Cut or not to cut.....that is my question
I also break the Centrum Silver in half before chewing it but I am going to stop using that as my multi-vitamin since it doesn't have any iron in it. I have an orange flavored Centrum chewable at work that has iron in it. I'm just going to buy another one to keep at home for the weekends.

Topic: RE: Cut or not to cut.....that is my question
I'm 7 months out and have started taking Citrical with vitamin D + magnesium (I did the liquid calcium before). Every time I take them, I think to myself "should I cut these up to make them dissolve better or will I get just as much good out of them when I leave them whole?". I don't know so I am turning to the more knowledgable here on this forum. Does it make any difference if I cut them up or swallow them whole? What do you think? By the way, the doctor says my vitamin levels are good so maybe I'm worrying for nothing.
Thank you in advance

If you run a google search for create an avatar, you will find lots of sites that will allow you to upload your picture. Then their program will shrink it down so you can save it to your computer and upload to this forum.
Good luck
