Wow! I really hope you aren't putting any of this on yourself. I know saying anything about a woman's abuser doesn't often fare well in the long term, but I'm still going to say it to you anyway in hopes this sinks in.  He sounds like  a total Douche Bag and you need to tell him "Good Riddance"!   You sound like a fabulous person whose only issue is not knowing when to dump a loser like him. As long as you waste time on this jerk , you're not open to meeting a wonderful man who will really appreciate you. If I were you, I'd pack his bags and have them on the porch asap!

Topic: RE: A little over a year and having regrets

Around a year out I some increasing aches and pains. Someone on here spoke about our center of gravity shifting with losing weight, which caused this type of issue. Since it eventually cleared up, and I feel better then ever, I chalked it up to that explanation. I hope things get better for you soon.

I wish you a great outcome to this latest challenge. It seems like losing 40 pounds before this discovery is a blessing because your lungs won't have to work as hard as they did pre-op.  I've battled the C Monster (not lung) a few times myself pre-op and won that battle. I'm 7 years free from our last go around. Like you said, when you initially find out, it kind of pulls the rug out from under you. They  do amazing things now-a-days, so chin up and know we're here to encourage you and listen, so keep us posted. PM if you need to talk.

Good luck on the final approval. When you hubby can take no more, just come here, we're all about sharing our experiences here.

I drink about 6 cups of coffee, and about another 9 cups of iced tea a day haven't had any issues other than I pee more then ever. Then again, pre-op I didn't consume nearly as much fluid as I do now.

Topic: RE: Lora is this normal?

I was doing thin sliced Hillshire Farms. I wrapped it around the cheese to make a roll. Watch the labeling, some has added sugar.

Topic: RE: Lora is this normal?

I know I'm not Lora,  but I also had open surgery and pulled up the exact 6 week day of my food plan in hopes i will help. Like Lora said, give up the broccoli for now and save the room for protein. Also like she said try softer foods. If this doesn't help, you'll need to see your surgeon because there could be a complication such as stricture preventing the food from passing through your stoma. As a note, many surgeons prefer their patients to drink 56 or 64 oz of fluids a day, mine required a minimum of 48 oz a day.

Hi Misty

I am so sorry to hear all you've been going through, but happy to know you're still here. I had cancer 1977 and then again in 2006, so they had to remove all my female organs. The first time I awoke to the screaming of a woman in labor while my future husband stood by holding my hand. Strangely, I was relieved it wasn't me in such pain. The second time I was on the oncology floor, but the hospital played Brahms Lullaby each time a baby was born, it was bittersweet.

I’ve learned early on that life throws us lots of curve balls, and although it can be very hard at times, if you can somehow embrace the emotions and roll with them, it helps a lot. I also eventually came to understand that I had a different purpose in life than I initially planned which has made my life very fulfilling, actually more so than I planned. I helped raise foreign students who became successful adults. I participated in defense and space programs in such a way that had I been bound to raise my own family, it would not have been possible. It’s been satisfying to know that future generations will benefit from my contributions. I also buy trees from Heifer International each year which allows me to put something alive and worthy on the planet. I still need a child fix on occasion, so I have become an awesome aunt. I often spoil the kids rotten and then send them home. The next generation of kids is coming along now and their parents know how much I deeply love them and how much they deeply love me, so they freely hand their babies over for me to spoil now too.

I hope you find peace in how life has changed your plans as well. PM me if you’d like to talk.

Coco Lites are one of my mainstays. You can bring some of them and then bring foil packs of tuna when ready to eat. Jerky is also full of protien and needs no special considerations. Sf pudding that requires no refrigeration and a little protein powder to add to it might be good too.

One other option you might consider is the Sleeve. Since you have issues with arthritis, it might be a better option than RNY, since you would still be able to take NSAIDS.

I didn't have that problem, but I rarely have an issue with anything. If you want to try them, you might want to do a small bites at a time and see how they work for you.

Topic: RE: Carb Free Cloud Bread - Recipe

I posted this recipe and pictures of the rolls I made on June 2nd.  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4629821/Flourless-Ligh t-and-Fluffy-Rolls-with-Protein/ I made them using the cream cheese option, no sweetener and in 6 per batch instead of 10.  I posted optional additions to the recipe in case anyone wanted something a  little different. The trick is to add what you want to the yolk mixture before mixing with the whites. I personally like them and have made several batches. I like them with sloppy joes, burgers or just spread with sf jam. I'd think with a little sweetener in the recipe, they'd be a great base for making a Danish, too.

To Kelly:  If I wanted garlic bread using these, I'd probably, add Italian seasonings to the yolk and later, melt a little butter with garlic salt  and spices, brush that on top, and then sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on that just before eating when hot from the oven.

I love stevia. The thing to remember is not all brands are created equil. I suggest getting NuNaturals brand stevia, get the bottle though. It can be found in the supplements aisle in many health food stores. and on Amazon. There is another product on the market now too called Swerve. It tastes and looks like sugar. They make it in confectionery sugar also. It's great sprinkled on berries. This is a little harder to find. Just go to their website for information, free samples, and use the links to either order, or to find a retailer in your area.

Topic: RE: OT - tramadol?
Hi Kelly,

I have serious issues with panic and anxiety disorder. I'm on and have been on SSRI's for over 25 years except for the few times my doc and I tried to see if I could get off them which never went well. 99% of the time I feel perfect, the other 1%, I take Ativan and it gets things under control quickly. I have taken Tramadol about 4 times in the last year and a half with no issues except that I was surprised at how very little effect it had on the pain.

Topic: RE: protein powder samples

Hi Alice,

Try these sites, they all have samples, and I've heard good things on the board about all of them. Remember though,  taste changes for many people post-op, and everyone has their preferences which vary widely.

https://vitalady.com/  This site has lots of different samples. The owner has had WLS, and will know your needs.

http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/ Lots of folks like the chicken soup because after a while the sweetness of the shakes get's old. I used their unflavored in broth and pudding early on, and still  drink the Vanilla and Chocolate when I'm low.

http://www.jayrobb.com/protein/jay-robb-protein-powder-sampl es.asp They make an egg protein too in case you can't tolerate whey protein isolate. I loved the strawberry early out.

http://www.chikenutrition.com/chike-variety-pack.html They have a good sounding variety pack and I've heard folks say they really liked the Orange Creme.

https://drinkclick.com/ I've heard rave reviews on this one from coffee drinkers.

Hmmmm, I'll have to look for them next time I shop, Thanks!

Topic: RE: Flourless, Light and Fluffy Rolls with Protein

I think they are. I put ham and cheese on one with a little spicy mustard and it was perfect.

I also eat them when I'm under stress too. One of my weak times is when I'm working from home on something that is extremely challenging, and don't get enough sleep. I can graze on  them and stay under 600 calories (even if I ate them all).

Topic: RE: OT-bluish lips and fingernails

There is no "Good" reason for lips and nails turning blue unless you painted them that color. I hate to sound dramatic, but you really should...no...NEED to go to the ER! If after reading this you still really can't bring yourself to do it, then call your PCP and talk to he doctor on call, so he/she will tell you to go.

I wish you well...let us know how it goes.

Topic: RE: Flourless, Light and Fluffy Rolls with Protein

Hi PetHair

Standard

You're Welcome, I hope you enjoy them. I was thinking of making something like a Danish next time. I plan to add a little Stevia to my next batch, then when done spread on a light coat of sweetened cream cheese, and completing with a dab of sf jam in the center.

Topic: RE: Flourless, Light and Fluffy Rolls with Protein

Here is a recipe I found online for rolls which are light and fluffy, have protein, and contain no flour. Below I also added pictures of my first batch (I've made several now). They are so good with sf jam, but tonight, I'm having sloppy joes.

Kat

 Makes 6 Rolls.

3 large eggs
pinch of cream of tartar (1/8 tsp)
3 ounces cream cheese (Do not soften)

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

Separate the eggs and add cream cheese to the yolks. Use a mixer to combine the ingredients together. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff (if you're using the same mixer, mix the whites first and then the yolk mixture). Using a spatula, gradually fold the egg yolk mixture into the white mixture, being careful not to break down the whites. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray and spoon the mixture onto the sheet, making 6 mounds. Flatten each mound slightly.

Bake about 30 minutes (You want them slightly softer, not crumbly). Let cool on the sheet for a few minutes, and then remove to a rack and allow them to cool. Store in a loosely open sack and allow to rest on the counter before use (otherwise they might be too moist). Can be frozen.

Notes: If you are making these to be savory (for burgers) you can add dry mustard and dill or other seasonings to the yolk mixture. If you want a more sweet roll, add a very small amount of stevia natural sweetener to the yolk mixture.

Topic: RE: Kidney Function

This is really a question for your surgeon.

When creatinine is at 1.4 is still in the normal range, albeit high, so there is no positive indicator of kidney disease in that number alone. With your  GFR being too low, that is "Perhaps" a concern.  Still, there could be many reasons contributing to this beside a kidney malfunction. How long your GFR has been low can be a factor of consideration, as well as medications you might be taking. It is quite possible that moving forward with the surgery would best mitigate any risky health issue that would contribute to accelerating the advancement of kidney disease if you have any. I think your surgeon will consider  your current state of health vs your projected recovery rate. Also, depending on what he/she thinks might be causing this, he/she may determine that WLS will help reverse these numbers. For example, without knowing you, it's possible that diabetes is the contributing factor in this disparity, and often times WLS helps that particular condition to go in remission.

Again, no one here can diagnose you or determine if you are a candidate or not, you really need to have your own doctor make these decisions with you.
