although it's kind of pricey, i LOVE www.unjury.com

it's really the only kind i tolerate.  you basically want to look for one that has the main ingredients as whey protein isolate, 20 grams of protein, and less than 5 grams sugar.

I personally get Body Fortress from WalMart. its like 15$ for a 2 pound tub, and thankfully was the only thing i could tolerate after surgery.

There are also Ideas on how to not make them so borning during the 2 week pre op, and trust me..they get boring and you WILL be sick of them

I really like the unflavored unjury and mix it with various flavors of Mio.  The Mio can be found at Krogers, Walmart, etc type stores.  They have a variey of flavors and the Mio has  0  calories, carbs, and no sugar.  Some of it tastes really good.  I like the sweet tea flavor.  My doctor's office told me about the Mio and where to buy it.  Unjury can be bought on line.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of types of pre made and protein powder for shakes. If you look at the Diet and Nutrition Forum, there are at least 350 pre made (RTD) and 450+ powders. The problem is that taste is so subjective it's difficult to recommend one you will like.

You can find shakes and powders in grocery stores, drug stores, WalMart, Target, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc.  I would suggest you go to GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and purchase some singles (rather than a case) so you can sample different types. Find one you like or at least can tolerate for your pre-op. But don't over buy. Tastes change after surgery so you may have to start the process over again.

Also, there are samples you can purchase for a reasonable price.  See the FAQs for some samples that are available.

PS---No protein "shots"---wrong type of protein.

Even if you get a whole tub, and you don't like it, GNC will let you return it for a refund within 30 days.
I like GNC AMP wheybolic 60.  I only use one scoop per serving.  Contains 20 grams of Whey Isolate and very low carb.

I liked the Slimfast low carb ready-made shakes the best.  I hate mixing protein powder, so I did better with ready-made shakes.  If you try the Slimfast ones, though, make sure you get the low carb.  They are a little hard to find in some stores.

My Doc actually had me use the slim fast High Protein shakes. When I mix them with skim milk, they taste about like chocolate milk. I didn't think it had the aftertaste that some of them have. I don't use it now because since surgery, I can't stand milk. Now I use Nectar. You can order a sample pack of their 13 flavors for $13 dollars. Most of them can be mixed with water. (I mix with crystal lite for a little sweeter taste). Go to http://www.si03.com/medical/med_index.htm if you want to try it. They'll get it to you in 2 days and if you like it, you can buy it at vitamin shoppe.
