I had the lap band surgery in 2007, which has been unsuccesful. I want to have it removed and am considering the gastric sleeve procedure. I have already been approved by insurance. Im going to see the doctor on Feb. 17th to start the program.  I am afraid of the risks. I want feedback, good and bad, from anyone who has had the sleeve. I would love to know if anyone has gone from the band to the sleeve or gastric bypass.

Haven't had it yet but found through all my research that the sleeve has less side effects and is much better than the lap band or RNY. Read though the last few days' worth of posts, there are others that asked the same questions and a whole bunch of replies to them. There's no malabsorption and no dumping with the sleeve like there is the RNY and with the sleeve the portion of stomach that contains the hunger hormone (ghrelin) is removed and you're less hungry. Hope my 2 cents helps. Read, read, read.

This thread has good info. There are actually a recent few threads in the last 1-3 pages that have some good info on this topic.

You'll find a lot of info on ObesityHelp. Here's a link for another site that is helpful as well. Best wishes!

I had the band put in january 2011 and it was a big failure for me, I had no restriction at all i was able to eat the same about as before even after getting a fill. The most I lost was 15 pounds and then ended up gaining back most of it. I then decided to get it removed and have the sleeve done in November 2011. It was a lot more painful because it is a bigger surgery and I had to stay in the hospital for 2 days. But i dont regret getting it at all!! It has been less then 3 months and i have already lost 34 pounds! I have never lost this amount of weight in my life. I can see a big difference compared to the sleeve. It obviously isnt an easy process and there is a lot of work that needs to be done but in the end it will be worth it. :) goodluck!
