At a month out my biggest struggle is drinking enough water. I never realized how difficult this would be. Yesterday the nut. told me I was very dehydrated, and even gave me a bottle of water to drink right then and there. She said my current stall is undoubtedly related to my fluid intake. The problem is that I have such a tiny bladder that I feel the urge to dash to the ladies' room about every 10 minutes if I drink the amount I'm supposed to. I don't know if this is normal for heavy water drinkers or not. I tend not to drink much at work because I don't want to be stuck in the ladies room all day.

So my nut. wants me to drink 80 oz of water a day. For all of you who are good at keeping your fluids up, how do you do it? Does your body ever adjust or do you just get used to spending your life in and out of the ladies room?

It's hard to know if your bathroom frequency is normal or not. You mention going every 10 minutes, but I'm not sure if you are serious or if that is an exageration. If that's real, then I suggest seeing your PCP and getting to the bottom of things because that doesn't sound normal.

I aim for 64 or more oz per day. Most days I am successful. I try to have at least half before noon. Usually I start my day with a 12-16oz protein shake followed by a full bottle of water. It gets me hydrated first thing and then it's easier to stay hydrated. Do I pee more post op than I did before surgery? Yes, but it's not that much of a difference to upset the normal rhythym of my day.

If you get tired of plain water, you can add some things like crystal light, mio, propel, etc to it. I also drink powerade zero and herbal tea to keep it interesting.

10 min. might be exaggerating, but I definitely MUST go every half hour or I'm miserable!

Me, personally I can't drink water fast.  The faster I drink it the faster I'll have to go to the restroom.  So what I do (when I am focusing on water, which should be everyday) is sip, sip, sip and before you know it you'll be done with 32oz like that.  Also, test the temperature of water.  I have a firend that says that cold water makes her go to the restroom right away.

You know I never thought about that- I always drink my water cold. Tomorrow I'll try it warmer and see if that helps-thanks!

I have issues with the water too. I have Sjogren's Syndrome, which makes my throat extremely dry, so before surgery I drank all day and with my meals to get my food down. Now with the sleeve, I'm barely making the 64oz, probably closer to 50 oz tops. I stopped drinking with meals because I know we're not suppose to, but between meals I still don't make much progress. I fill up very quickly on the water now, where before I would drink huge cups of selzer with lemon continously. As far as urinating, I'm used to going all day and all night long from drinking with my autoimmune disorder.

The water is very important to keep losing, that's what I keep telling myself to keep drinking. I also suck on sugar free ice pops when I can't bare to take another sip if I'm too full.

Yeah, it's like you're not supposed to drink 30 minutes before or after eating, and in between you've gotta time getting your water in and everything- it just takes such a conscientious effort! I'm really finding this to be my most difficult learning curve at this point. I imagine the vets would tell me to plan ahead and be vigilant!

I am a home health nurse and my problem is that oftentimes there is no bathroom.  I am only 13 days out, so my water intake is still low.  I usually get in about 40-50oz/day.  Seems like I am drinking constantly though.  I try to make up in the afternoons but then that means trips to the bathroom through the night.

The only thing I could think of is to perhaps see your MD and be sure you do not have a UTI.  Next suggestion is perhaps have labs to see if you may benefit from hormone replacement therapy or look into Ditropan.

I take Enablex 7.5 mg a day for urinary frequency.  Ask your Dr if that is something right for you.  It has helped me alot with urgency and frequency, I also have a small bladder or so it seems.  As for help with getting your water in, my Dr (while still in the hospital) gave me one of those small plastic liquid medicine cups that measured out an ounce, he filled it half full and said drink that much every 5 minutes.  It was barely a small mouthful and very doable.  That is the only way I was able to get in the water I needed to have the first few months.  Now of course at 11 months I can pretty much gulp water up to about 3 oz.  It will get better but it is also hard the first few months.  Hope that helps.
