Is this normal or should I be calling the surgeon for my husband?  He just was released from the hospital today?

If in doubt, I would call.  Just to be on the safe side.  It isnt like a call will cost you anything but not calling and it being a bad thing could cost more than just money.

u should call to let his surgeon know, but i wouldn't be alarmed, as post op temps up to 101.5 are usually considered a normal response by ur body

Totally doffernt...but as a nurse working on an OB floor....we tell new moms that if they have a fever above 100.4 assume infection and call the doctor.  Better to be safe than sorry later!
