Pork rinds are not a significant source of protein.

Just throwing the topic out there.  I have eaten pork rinds 3 or 4 times now- loved that there were no carbs and 7 grams of protein in a serving.  But alas, the protein doesn't count as it is low quality gelatin type according to an old post on the DS board.  Dang it!

I had a few the other day and I prefer them over chips (which I was craving).

When I have them I do not count them in my protein for the day.

Yup, they're collagen, so don't count them towards your protein totals.  But they are tasty, crunchy salty snacks!

I like them when I'm craving a crunchy, chip-like snack.  Not as a source of protein.

Hmmm, that's interesting though. Gelatin is made from collagen too and is made from some parts of animal; bones, cartilage, skin etc.  Glucosamine comes from one/some of those same parts too.  Guess we shouldn't count the protein in gelatin either, then!

For over 10 years, before surgery, I was taking Glucosamine/Chondrotin (have not started back up yet).  I took them because they allowed me to stop taking Advil daily (NASAID) which I had a lot of way back then, so this supplement was a big help for what my doctor says is arthritis.    I was also putting some Collagen powder (type 2) in my pre-surgery morning protein shakes, during my 6 month pre surgery insurance class.

Don't think I will be adding them anytime soon but I might consider them when I am cleared for crackers for a change, when I am cleared for that...IN Moderation of course.  (probably not worth the calories)  Wikpedia shows Collagen types 1 thru 5 but I couldn't find how much collagen or what kind is pork rinds but they appear to be 80-90 calories and zero carbs for half an ounce of pork rinds...

The Meijer brand chili lime is 70 cals for a half ounce.  Up until today I was counting the protein because i didn't realized not to, hence the post for others.

So wish I would have read that fine print on the label before I ate them.
