Hungry hungry hippo :/

I am almost one month post op and am really worried. I aALWAYS hungry and can eat pretty much anything without feeling sick or full. Also after eating 3-4 ounces not really full anf seems like I get hungry again less than an hour later. What is my problem? Should I just stop eating even though I am hungry? I am so scared that I am gonna sabotage my own weight loss. Anyone else have this problem?
are you RNY or VSG? I dont know anything about RNY but if you are VSG and 1 month out, i think you need to have your sleeve checked/visualized by your surgeon.
I am sleeved, I dont know why it says RNY, I cannot change it!  And about having my surgeon check it, I had surgery in Mexico, self pay.  I do not have insurance so I cannot afford to go in and have a doctor look at me.  I am starting to feel like I made a very expensive mistake.

I had exactly the same issues as you.  Everything fell into place after a couple of months. I went from eating 3oz at three weeks to 2oz at 2 months and haven't changed that.  The hunger was horrific, white knuckle stuff for weeks 3 and four, then it went away and stayed away.  Fear not. The way it was explained to me is that the nerve endings in your new stomach have not healed from surgery and they can't tell you it is full.  measure your food and the hungry every couple of hours will pass too.  I thought I'd made the worst mistake of my life for awhile but it all shook out fine.  try not to worry.  Don't do what i did and confront your surgeon over the size of your sleeve.   Not good.  Hope this helps
I understand. wow. I don't know but I feel your fear and frustration. I also did self pay. I used a surgeon in las vegas. how did you feel the first week? were you ever full after a couple ounces? do you have a pcp? since I was self pay and basically found the surgeon myself, I asked my pcp if he would follow me post op. I have medical insurance, it just didn't cover VSG. so I did follow up with him. I had about 5 days around week 3 when I felt like I had a stricture in my stomach and it would spasm with each bite ( thankfully I only ate 6-7 bites). but I talked to my pcp about it and thought about an EGD if I didn't get better. it resolved after about 5 days. I would think an EGD, X-ray or barium swallow would show the size of your sleeve and this would give you reassurance. you had to have had a pcp who you saw preop to help get medical clearance preop. I think you should start there and talk to them. until then I would not eat more than your surgeon told you was the size of your sleeve. my surgeon told me 4-5 ounces. I wouldn't exceed that even if you are still hungry. are you eating your protein first and keeping a food journal?
Can I ask who your surgeon was? And do they have someone you can email or call with questions?

Also, what kind of stuff are you eating? Most of us find that certain foods are "sliders" that go right through us... I haven't found one yet for me, but I'm only a month out, so I'm not the best example.

Edited to add: I haven't found a slider for me yet because I've only been on solids for a week now, and so my experience with "real" eating has been somewhat limited thus far.

Who was your surgeon?  There are one or two Mexican docs that have botched people's sleeves.

What types of foods are you eating?  Can you eat 4 oz of dense protein, like chicken breast or steak?

I feel the same way. I can eat most anything with no restriction, then one day I have loads of restriction. I just try to do my best to weigh my food so I dont go over and over eat. But the being hungry really stinks.

I am one month post op and in a similar state. I get hungry, but it doesn't take much to feel me up.  I am disappointed in my weight loss.  I haven't lost any weight in two weeks.

First of all, thank you all so very much for the detailed responses, I just LOVE this site and all the support.  Well, I went to Dr. Quinones and I think he did a wonderful job, I had very little pain and have physically had no "problems".  At first I was feeling a lot of restriction, barely able to have but a bite or two.  Then in week 3 i think, all this started with being hungry all the time.  I started trying different types of foods, and yes I do protein first.  I ussually have eaither tuna or canned salmon, which is really soft, and then either a soft cheese like mozarella or yogurts.  I have been able to eat chicken (processed) with no issues, and even the other day had a few bites of Carne asada (beef).  So is that even okay for me to be eating those things.  I honsetly skipped through the mush stage after a few days because I realized I can tolerate "real" food, maybe that is one problem, not sure.  I have even accidentally overate and had to make myself purge a few times, which I felt humiliated because I was starving and out with the kids so we stopped at jack in the box and I ordered 2 tacos and ate one and a half, then immediately had to go home and throw up, TWICE!  I felt so ashamed that I havent told anyone, but i just want to be honest so I get the proper advice.  I realize i have major eating issues to deal with, so thats one things, but I literally get the hunger feeling quite a bit.  Am I destined to fail at this??  Feeling....like a failure

Okay, so here's some tricks to help with the hunger.

Take a PPI (like Prilosec) or acid reducer (like Pepcid AC) and see if that helps.  For awhile after surgery, your stomach will continue to produce acid at its old rate.  Excess acid feels like hunger.

Push the liquids.  The minimum is 64 oz.  If you can do more, do it!  Dehydration or thirst will also feel like hunger.

Once you've done this, start measuring out your meals.  No more than about 2 oz at your stage.  Eat it slowly, then stop!  Even if you still feel "hungry" - STOP!  You've already found out the hard way what happens when you overeat.  It's not fun.

Start tracking what you eat.  There are many online food trackers - myfitnesspal.com is probably the most common.  Make sure you're getting your protein (60g minimum a day), and somewhere between 600-800 calories.

I also got sleeved with Dr.Quinones on the 6th of July and am down 30lbs I am excited about choosing him he was the most affordable surgeon I found. I was so impressed with him I tell everyone to use him. I don't think anyone of us who had the surgery are destined to fail. We had surgery to control what we all had issues with PORTION sizes. Now we can not physically eat past what a normal person should eat. I eat ice cream and some junk food but that does not mean I am destined to fail. It just means I am human. I do not think we should feel bad we ate something we shouldn't. WE WILL BE FINE WITH OUR WEIGHT LOSS. I can't wait until 6 months down the line.
