vsg + gall bladder removal

in the middle of a gall bladder attack.  could probably get it taken out before vsg but am not very thrilled to go through two surgeries back to back.  am wondering which hurts more, VSG or cholecystectomy?  does the vsg hurt MORE with a removal of gall bladder at the same time (recovery wise)?  by how much?  anyone have both out at the same time?  anyone have both seperately and know which one is worse to recover from?

arghhhh... paaaaain....
I had both at the same time and I recovered fine. Of course I can't tell you if I had more pain than others but I had 2 gum ball size stones and requested the gb out because rapid weight loss triggers attacks.

http://www.youtube.com/user/72Crabadams   Me rambling about my journey : )

I had mine removed at the same time as VSG ( 10 days ago).  I have never had any problems with attacks, but had over an inch sized stone in there, plus a family history of gall stones.

My only reference is reading on this board, and I say my recovery sounds similar to everyone else who
just had the VSG -  kind of miserable for the first couple days, then better each day afterwards.  My only annoying problem right now is that my incisions itch like crazy - some kind of reaction to the glue I guess, but it seems so odd to start itching a week later when the glue has actually flaked off.  And its not really the
incision, but a large circle area around the incision.  And I wish he could have put the upper incision a bit lower - it is too close to the bra line.

thanks for all your info.  i have had problems since i was young with my GB.  i have a medium sized stone in it (well i did in 2010 when i had an ultrasound).  i am going for another.  i have so many digestive issues and pain and bloating and burping and gross feeling i sometimes wonder if some of that is caused by the GB and not just my stomach.  i  would really like to try saving it, but i dont know if it's worth the pain, and if i get my VSG and still have GB attacks, jeez.  not cool.

i'll try the remedies, usually i boil flaxseeds and make a tea and that helps.  i'll try the epsom salts, i have some.  never thought of eating that stuff.  lol.  apple juice i've heard a bit about, i know people do those before the flushes, but i don't know if i totally believe those flushes are gallstones and not the ingredients clumped together and coming out looking gallstoney.  i think i saw somewhere where they tested the stones and it was the ingredients for the flush, i'll look that up again.

my vsg is in the next couple of months (sigh it keeps getting moved up)

hoping to have it till surgery will probably ask to get both things done at the same time to not have two seperate surgeries.  makes more sense no?

Had GB & VGS at same time with quick recovery. No complications, no pain and no nausea or vomiting. Weakness and constipation was the most troublesome for me and that was related to sleeve procedure not the GB. Your body is adjusting to  decreased intake.

that's nice to hear.

i dont know how i will react to the surgery.  i've had about 10 surgeries in my life, from brain surgery to thymus removal (they fricking sawed my ribs open yuck), to sinus surgeries and tummy tucks lol.

i've always really done well after surgeries (except the sinus ones for some reason i think the hospital was overdosing me on morphine i was MESSSSSED UP)...

hoping to keep a great attitude and think of it like an adventure (the only thing that keeps me sane).  i worry about stuff after, like leaks, or blood pressure issues (so scared when i read people saying they have low blood pressure after surgery im totally paranoid about passing out).  so i'm gonna try really super ass hard to get in my water and protein.  like even if it's the most disgusting thing on the planet.  as long as i don't puke it all back up i should be fine, if i do i'll go get an IV to prevent dehydration.  i dont want to be weak and feel horrible.  i'll try the best i can not to let that happen.. but nervous!
I don't think you should 'try to save it'.   It could only get worse, not better.  And from the drs office and everything I could read, it sounds like not having it might cause some diahhrea problems when
eating fatty foods (kind of like Alli!).  And.... since we aren't supposed to be eating fatty foods anyway....

i have constant constipation (i know TMI)... i kinda like the idea of having to go the bathroom lots.  makes me feel cleaned out.  i may be the only person to not mind the runs lol.
