Weight Loss Surgery Directory

Progress Report : almost 4 weeks out

I had my surgery on May 2nd and  I am currently down about 42 lbs from the start of my liquid diet around April 14th. Since the surgery I have lost about 24 lbs. I am now able to drink liquids with little to no problem (still haven't tried a carbonated drink yet...), foods are hit and miss. I can eat some soft foods with little issue but if I try a tougher meat, OMG, can it be so uncomfortable no matter how much I chew it. But I know it'll get easier.

Everyone around me can see that I am shedding weight and I can surely see this in how my clothes fit. So far no regrets (except the fact that I miss eating a nice quantity of food   ).

Outside of the weight loss I am actually looking forward to going back to work next week. Ready to continue my weight loss and progress. Hope everyone else is doing well with their WLS.

Great news!  It sounds like you're doing everything right because you sound healthy & energetic.  I hope to be in the same position by July 4th!  The fireworks will have a new meaning for me this year!  Please keep posting; I'd like to hear about your progress.

Suzanne
Thanks, Suzanne. Wish you the best of luck with your surgery. I meant to post more but I will def try to stay more on top of things. I will be posting progress pictures soon too.

Justmest, congrats on the WLS. Good luck with the weight loss, drinking def does  get much much easier.

Good Job!  In six months you won't recognize yourself.  If you stay on top of the program and work on the mental part, your concerns about food will disappear as quickly as your weight!

Congratulations and keep up the good work.

I have real concerns about missing food and struggling during the liquid stage.  I am looking forward to the weightloss so much that it will hopefully not be problematic.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Congrats!  Sounds like you've had an excellent start on your journey.  Your post is very encouraging to us newbies...

Wow! Congrats on the weight lose.  I have my VSG in May 1 and have only lost about 15 lbs.  I can hardly eat anything and cannot get in enough liquids.  I am dehrydrated so they told me to drink more and eat less.  How are you doing it?  I mean what are you eating exactly?

Andrea

I mostly take in liquids. I drink my protein shake in the morning, I have about 50gms of protein in it mixed with water, or vanilla soy milk. It will take me a couple of hours to fini**** but I get it down.

I may have 1 (maybe 2) eggs in the morning if I feel up to it or a small bowl of cereal with milk.

I then drink water with Mio like flavoring added. Again this will take me a few hours to finish about 20-30 ozs of it. As for meals I tend to stick to softer foods like soups and meats. As for the meats I slowly eat chicken and take very very small bites and chew and chew and chew.

I have tried steak and hamburgers but those tend to be very difficult to eat comfortably right now.

I sadly have a bad sweet tooth, so I may indulge in some ice cream or a "fun sized" candy once a week or so.

I, like most of VSG'ers, don't have a real hunger anymore so I will find myself like, " I guess better eat something."

It's been a slow process over the past month, but I can say that since the surgery I can drink much easier and get in all my protein (the flavor of my shakes help) and I try hard to get in all my water. I don't always get enough but I try to get as close as possible.

As for the weight loss, I plateaued for about a week last week, and literally over night, I lost almost 10lbs. I expect plateaus to occur alot but I know that I will keep losing as long as I keep on a steady course of eating as good as I can.

Hi Topflight.     What sorts of excercizing are you doing?  I gotta do something different then I am.  Four weeks out I am still doing 1-2 protein shakes a day.  I can't get enough liquids in me.  Eating more then 4 teaspoons of food is painful, so I don't.  And them having to wait 1 hour after eating to drink, sipping liquids by the time I finish one 8 oz glass of anything I have to eat again.  I know I am sounding like I am complaining, but I do not know what to do.  I am in awe at the amount of weight you have lost.  is it correct, that people who start out heavier loose weight faster?
