Hair Loss Prevention Question

Did anyone start with hair loss prevention measures BEFORE surgery, or BEFORE your hair started falling out?

If you did, do you think it helped by starting out ahead of the game?

Thanks!

They started me on Biotin 2 weeks before surgery and am still taking them (one week out) and haven't had any loss yet
I have been taking Biotin, Zinc, and Folic Acid for 3-4 months now. My surgery is 2 weeks away (Woo Hoo). I had shaved my head in March for St. Baldrick's - charity supporting kids with cancer. I am actually surprised how fast my hair has grown back. And it seems thicker too. My nails are amazing strong too. Coincidence??? Maybe. But it never hurts to take supplements now. Good luck!

I started taking biotin 2 wks out from surgery.  i'm now 6 months out, and hair is still coming out.  its super annoying.  luckly i have thick hair, but its no where as thick as it used to be.  the biotin really only helps with growing new hair and nails.  i do find that with the biotin my nails grow really fast.
My stylist swears that if you get enough protein you won't lose hair. She also advises biotin. I haven't lost much hair, and started out with extra thick hair so it would be hard to notice. I have seen plenty of people that do everything right, protein and vitamins and biotin and still lose hair. I think you are either lucky or you are not. I would do all of the preventive measures anyway so you will know you have done all that you can if it dose start to thin out. I have never seen anybody say that they would prefer keeping the fat to keep their hair. The weight loss and healthier life always seems to be worth it, and one of my friends who started out with very thin hair just bought a gorgeous wig! I started biotin within the first week or so post-op.

The hair loss typically doesn't start until 3 months out.  No one can tell you if you will or won't lose hair.  It all depends on your body and how it handles the stress of surgery.  There are some things to do to minimize it, like keep protein as high as possible and staying fully hydrated.  IF you are going to lose, theres nothing you can do to prevent it.

There are things you can do to help it grow back quickly, like Biotin supplements.

My secret to hair loss? I cut my hair to about 1/8th an inch. If I can't see it, I can't miss it.

Hmm, nice try!

I am a MOM, however!

Moms have eyes in the back of their heads. So  I'll be able to see it AND I'll be able to miss it!!
